To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 5th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace

Hey Dad,
We just got back from Washington DC and I thought I would visit here for a minute to tell you I still love you and miss you. I think about you every day and pray you can forgive me for not being with you when you needed me. Maybe one day I can make it right Lord knows the justice system failed you after you had given so much to it over the years. Rest in peace and know that I never forget.

IT HAS ALMOST BEEN A YR. SINCE YOU SO TRAGICALLY LEFT US ALL BEHIND, I REMEMBER THE DAY OH SO WELL I WILL NEVER FORGET AS LONG AS I LIVE HOW MY HEART FELT AS IF IT WERE RIPPED FROM MY CHEST. THE TRIAL BEGINS 7/8/08 AND WE HOPE THE JUSTICE SYSTEM WILL NOT LET US DOWN. WE JUST RETURNED FROM WASHINGTON DC. AND IT WAS SUCH AN HONOR TO WITNESS THE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE THERE TO PAY TRIBUTE TO THE MANY MEN AND WOMEN IN LAW ENFORCEMENT WHO WERE KILLED IN THE LINE OF DUTY IN 2007. YOU WOULD BE SO PROUD, RUTHIE, LITTLE RANDY. THEY WERE SO BRAVE. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS SO HARD FOR ALL OF US, IT WAS SO BEAUTIFUL.WE MET SO MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE. AT THE END OF THE DAY WE KNOW YOU DID NOT DIE IN VAIN, AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!!!!!

I met and knew both Randy and his brother Garland before I became a peace officer. I knew Garlan through my employment as a disc jockey at WDOC in Prestonsburg. I later met Randy and drew a blood donation from him as a Phlebotomist for the Central Kentucky Blood Center. I recently saw Garland on the news and know that he is now an Officer. Both are outstanding men who are committed to the service of there fellow man. The loss of Cheif Garland is a devastating blow to our Commonwealth and our chosen profession. May God bless the loved ones you leave behind Randy. May you rest in peace.

Dearest Chief Lacy,
I had the privledge and honor to sit in the same row as your beautiful family at the candle light vigil. Talking to them and hearing the stories of your life and tragic death was inspiring and a great comfort as my Department lost a brother as senselessly as your live was taken. Your sons was so strong, I can tell you raised them to be good men to their familes and the communities they serve. Your grandson was truly a reflection of the men you raised and when he sat on his Mom's lap tears running down his eyes I saw how much a man could truly be missed. I know the men and women that left us in 2007 looked down on the ocean of candles and the thin blue line raised toward you guys and gleamed back your pride. We wish you were here but please watch over your family and keep us safe on the streets from Ketucky to Toledo,Ohio. It was a honor to be present with them Chief.

Chief Lacy,

I just returned home after riding in the Police Unity Tour from here in New Jersey to Washington D.C. It was an honor and a privilege to ride in your honor.

I know it was you that put your son Arthur, his wife and your grandson on that subway train in the very row in front of me in D.C. so I would have the opportunity to meet them. You should be very proud of your family (as I am sure you are), as they are a reflection of the man you were.

I was able to personally present Arthur with the unity tour bracelet that I wore with your name on it. I now proudly wear the memorial bracelet that Arthur gave me. It is truly one of my most prized possessions.

God bless you Brother and may God bless your wonderful family.

Tonight you were featured on America's Most Wanted as a hero, a title well-deserved. After seeing the pictures of you on TV and reading some of your reflections here, I know you are still on duty, only now, the streets are Gold and the scene is peaceful. You are no longer working the beat alone, there are only the finest patrolling those streets- I know, because my Dad is one of them! I want you to know you have not been forgotten, and I thank you for your dedication, service and sacrifice. God bless you, Sir, and all those who love you. Continue to watch over the thin blue line...

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Chief Lacy. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Randy, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Randy's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Randy's life was about so much more than the way he died. Randy will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Chief Lacy, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

I am in the academy now and many things are just as you said they would be. I love my new job at Stanton because of the close friendships there. I've heard you say it before," you can make more money other places, but buddies stick together". I never knew what that meant until you left us and I felt a piece of me leave with you. I just wanted to write you and say that I am still thinking of you everyday. You are greaty missed and i am proud to say, Chief Randy Lacy was my buddy.

For many years this officer stood the watch... While some of us lay about at night, this officer stood the watch...
While others of us were attending schools and, yes, even before some of us were born, this officer stood the watch...As our families watched the storm clouds of war
brewing on the horizons of history, he stood the watch...
Often he would look around and see his family needed his guidance, but he knew he must stay because,he had the watch...For many years he stood the watch so that we
and our fellow citizens could sleep soundly in safety knowing that this officer would stand the watch.

Today we are here to say...
"The watch stands relieved..."
Relieved by those you have led, guided, and trained...

Friend
"You stand relieved...
We have the watch."

Ready about Officer Lacy broke me heart.
I hope his family can find peace in knowing that he must have been a GREAT man. God only takes great men young, I think it's in hopes that he will touch our hearts and souls.
Well, Officer Lacy, you did just that--you touched my heart. Do you think you could put in a good word for the rest of us?

Today we will be arresting several people in a small town just like Clay City. I will have your picture and your city patch in my pocket. We will do this in your honor. We will never stop the fight that took your life. You are not forgotten and look down on us with favor of the good we do!
May your family find peace with God.

Uncle Randy, It has been months since your death but still we talk about you every day. Some days we smile, other days we cry all day. It has left such an empty spot in our family. How we miss you. We are very proud of the life you lived. See you soon, uncle randy...

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

It is not fitting that you would be taken away from the law enforcement community in this manner. We are so saddened to hear of your passing. Your contributions at making your community a safer place cannot be overstated. May you find the peace that you are so well deserved.

We thank you and your family for your service to our profession. May your family feel the strength and prayers that we send out to them.

"Now cracks a noble heart. Good night, sweet prince, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest."

Respectfully submitted on behalf of my department,
