Reflections for Officer Robert Franklin Dickey

I retired last year from the CHP after 24 years. It pains me inside to see young officers on our department pay the ultimate price to do our job. In the case of Officer Dickey, I did not know him personally, but as a brother officer I know he had to have been a credit to our department. My heart goes out to he wife, child, and to the department I love that has lost a great man who was willing to be there to protect all of us.

To the family and friends of Officer Robert Franklin Dickey and his fellow officers with the California Highway Patrol:

On behalf of our family, we wish to extend our deepest condolences on the grievous loss you have suffered because of this tragic line of duty death.

I pray that his loved ones will be comforted by the support of your faith and your law enforcement family. There are many other survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty who share this difficult journey with you, and they too can be a source of great comfort.

Heaven has another hero today, but how I wish it were not your beloved.

This refection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished and dedicated service Officer Dickey gave to his community and the citizens of the State of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on June 10, 2007.

Officer Franklin Dickey rest in peace brother.

"Oh, Lord. Hear my prayer. May I return from my shift in the same health as when I enter into it. Please give me the wisdom to perform my duties to the utmost of my abilities. Help me to stay focused and fair in my contacts with the public. Help me to always keep in mind the oath I've taken as an officer of the law and a public servant. Give me patience, strength and the ability to overcome those who seek to harm the weak and defenseless. Oh, Lord. Hear my prayer.”

Dear Sir, This past Sunday I happped to be reading the CHP Incident Page when I came across your accident. Unconscience to conscience with leg injury led me to believe that you would survive and I prayed for you. It was not to be and for some reason known only to God He took you home. You lived as a good man, and fine officer. You died doing what you loved. You will forever be remembered for those things and now as a hero.

June 13, 2007

I am so sorry for your loss. I wish for you comfort during this time of tragedy. May God Bless the Family, Friends and the brothers and sisters of the CHP.
