I still feel your presence around the house, even though many years have passed. Our children have all grown to be successful young men and ladies. Our daughters graduated today, attaining their Master's degree and our youngest son will be graduating from high school on Friday. You are definitely our guardian angel and we love and miss you dearly. Rest on my wonderful husband and soulmate. I will always keep you near my heart!!

Even after all these years, I still can’t believe you’re gone. You were an extremely important piece to our family’s puzzle. You will always remain in our hearts and will never be forgotten. You would be so proud of the way your children have taken your life lessons and used them to become the amazingly successful adults you molded them to be. We miss you so very much. Continue to Rest In Peace.
Love you dearly... Our Big Dawg!

It is National Peace Officer Memorial Day, and I cannot help but think of you whenever the idea of remembering our lost comes up. It's hard to believe it's been over ten years already, exactly eleven in a few days.

You would hardly recognize the Sheriff's Office these days - we've "grown up" a lot - new policies, new equipment, new technology, and so many new faces. Many of the newer officers are only vaguely aware of you and your service. I will make it a point today to make sure you are remembered in our shift briefing.

Know that you are not forgotten. More than just your death - your life, your service, and your friendship touched so many lives. You are a part of all of us, and we honor you every day we put on the uniform and go to work.

Take care my friend. Keep watching after us from on high. Lord knows we could use the help.

Sergeant G.D. Slemons

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.
God Bless

It's still "VERY" dealing with the fact that you're no longer physically with us. I look back on my life and realize daily how much you influenced me. From my love of sports to where I attended college (FAMU Rattlers). My daily prayers as I travel to work end with good thoughts of you and grandma. Wish you were here to see what you predicted with Amari (he's doing very well in sports), but he's doing even better academically. When you went home to be with our saviour, he was two years old; but he somehow remembers everything about you and brings up your name in conversation frequently.

Man I miss you and look forward to seeing you when mu number is called.

Love you

As we approach the 4th anniversary of your passing I'm in a somber mood. Although we know you're in a better place, our family really misses you and wish you were still with us. You will always remain in our hearts and we love you dearly. Continue to rest in peace. We will see you again one day.

Your heroism and service is honored today as we approach the second anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service.

My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was shot twice when ambushed on April 23rd when he was on a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, 2 years before you were killed.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

We didn't know each other well, but I am glad I that had the privilege of meeting and working with you sir. We are currently in our 7th week of the academy and I think about you often. We will never forget your service, and the blessings you brought to this world simply by being in it. You are truly missed brother. I hope I can become half the man you were.

We have not yet reached the first full year of you being gone but you and your family will be honored at the Memorial this year in DC. I hope you and your family knows how much you mean to us and that all of you stay in our thoughts and prayers.
Not only will we add your name to the memorial wall this year but we will play a special basketball game this weekend for you and the family. We will do all we can to support your family during the memorial week. So you, Jimmy & Chuck get together and enjoy the game as we REMEMBER.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Deputy Scarlett, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Marvin, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Marvin's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Marvin's life was about so much more than the way he died. Marvin will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Deputy Scarlett, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been almost five years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

marvin you know this is the third or fourth time i have been able to bring myself to visit this site. i remember the time you would bring folks in on warrants into 750 or for other issues that you came into the jail for and when ever i saw you now matter how bad of a day i was having, just the sight of you and your always happy self made thing better. i do not really know what to say or even how to say thankyou for everything you have done. you know i remember that sunday the 20 of may the year 2007 so clearly on what i was doing. i was feeding the inmates in the jail when i forgot that i was scanning the s.o. channel on the radio, i then heard dispatch call for you numerous times but you would never answer, i then tried to get you on your nextel to make sure you were k and let you know they were calling. when i was not able to get you to respond the wrost went through my mind and a prayer was said for you and then when i was through is when i heard about your wreck and then heard about your passing. it was hard then to think about it or talk about it and it is hard still but i still will never forget you brother. when i met your wife for the first time and your family i was very very proud of them and you because yall are very strong minded, willed, and humble people. during the week to come after your passing your family was very strong and deserved to be called souljas for they handled everything with style and grace. i miss you borther and it is still hard for me to write this but i always see you when i go to my myspace page for there is a pictuer of you and a memorial to you. you know i got this prayer 3 days after your passing i was able to frame it and present it to your wife alsong side of Sgt. Michael (Country) Roberts, and know i wanna share it with you. rest in peace my brother and may good be with you always.

POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER

Lord I ask for courage

Courage to face and
Conquer my own fears...

Courage to take me
Where others will not go...

I ask for strength

Strength of body to protect others
And strength of spirit to lead others...

I ask for dedication

Dedication to my job, to do it well
Dedication to my community
To keep it safe...

Give me Lord, concern
For others who trust me
And compassion for those who need me...

And please Lord

Through it all
Be at my side...

AMEN
