Reflections for Police Officer Alan Christopher Silver

Rest In Peace Brother...

Cops Prayer Poem

THE OFFICER STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD,
WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS.
HE HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINNING,
JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS.

"STEP FORWARD NOW OFFICER,
HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU?
HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER CHEEK?
TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE OFFICER SQUARED HIS SHOULDERS AND SAID,
"NO LORD, I GUESS I AINT,
BECAUSE THOSE OF US WHO CARRY BADGES
CAN'T ALWAYS BE A SAINT.

I'VE HAD TO WORK MOST SUNDAYS,
AND AT TIMES MY TALK WAS ROUGH,
AND SOMETIMES I'VE BEEN VIOLENT
BECAUSE THE STREETS ARE TOUGH.

BUT I NEVER TOOK A PENNY
THAT WASN'T MINE TO KEEP.
THOUGH I WORKED A LOT OF OVERTIME,
WHEN THE BILLS GOT TO STEEP.

AND I NEVER PASSED A CRY FOR HELP
THOUGH AT TIMES I SHOOK WITH FEAR.
AND SOMETIMES, GOD FORGIVE ME,
I'VE WEPT AN UNMANLY TEAR.

I KNOW I DON'T DESERVE A PLACE
AMONG THE PEOPLE HERE.
THEY NEVER WANTED ME AROUND
EXCEPT TO CALM THEIR FEAR.

IF YOU'VE A PLACE FOR ME HERE, LORD,
IT NEEDN'T BE SO GRAND.
I NEVER EXPECTED OR HAD TOO MUCH,
BUT IF YOU DON'T I'LL UNDERSTAND.

THERE WAS SILENCE ALL AROUND THE THRONE,
WHERE THE SAINTS OFTEN TROD.
AS THE OFFICER WAITED SILENTLY
FOR THE JUDGEMENT OF HIS GOD.

"STEP FORWARD NOW, OFFICER.
YOU'VE BORNE YOUR BURDENS WELL.
COME WALK A BEAT ON HEAVEN'S STREETS,
YOU'VE DONE YOUR TIME IN HELL."

Allen words cannot express what an IMPACT you have made and are still making on my life. You were a TRUE FRIEND, and for that I thank you. You were like a brother to me. I will miss your smile and your laugh but most of all our talks. We have some great memories that I will keep with me always. You were so beautiful when I saw you yesterday, and I will keep you in my heart every day. I promise to keep contact with your parents, and watch over them for you. And to his parents, I offer my thoughts and prayers to you. I loved your son dearly and he had definitely lived his life in a way that made you proud. He was an outstanding officer, friend, co-worker, confidant, son, brother, boyfriend, and spiritual leader in his community and church. I will miss you and NEVER forget you. You carried a piece of my heart with you yesterday, take care of it until I see you again.
I love you Allen, my brother in law enforcement.

In CHRIST there are no goodbye's.
Through CHRIST there is no end.
For I will see you again my FRIEND!

Thank you, my fellow african-american brother. This world has lost another "true" soldier. In turn, we've gained a true "Angel". Mount up on wings as an eagle and fly for the rest of us. I pray blessings upon your family and your department. May the work that you've done, speak for you.
Look down on us until we reach that distant shore.
If anyone should ask, I'll tell them that you're going up yonder. You are blessed and never forgotten. We've got the watch.

To Officer Silver's family, friends and co-workers, I want to express my sincere condolences as we grieve the tragic loss of our co-worker, Ofc Luke T. Hoffman. We feel your pain as well. Two young lives lost amongst so many on these pages, angels among us watching over us now, patrolling the skies above. We know they are standing watch for us. Be at peace Officer Silver. Say hi to Luke for us. God bless your family, friends and co-works and may they find peace in knowing you are in comfort now.
