Reflections for Corporal Nick Samuel Polizzotto

To the Polizzotto Family,
Thank you for allowing me to REMEBER Nick, during my bike ride from NJ/NY to DC. It was a honor to have met you and allowing me to feel like a Polizzotto for those brief minutes. My thougths and prayers are with you.

Nick
Your family and friends will be joined by thousands of others this week who unfortunately, know too well the pain and sorrow that we feel. They will be gathering in DC to honor you and your fellow brothers and sisters in blue who also gave their lives in order to protect others. As the families gather tonight for the candlelit ceremony, you will be there joined by the many fallen others. Please know that the tears that you see falling from your family are not all tears of sadness. Yes, you are gone physically from them, but you will always be there for them. Scott, Paul and all the others will be there with you as you are given the highest honor, as your name is etched in that granite memorial. God Speed.

I spent hours last nite reading about Scott's life and sacrifice and now I just spent hours reading about Nick. Over 50 reflections between the 2 of you!
My heart is deeply grieved for the loss of 2 precious lives to the city of South
Bend, to the department they loved and to the families who will never be the
same. I am so sorry you are having to endure such heartache. May the love
and compassion of Jesus Christ heal your broken hearts and may He protect
your city from further harm. This diminishes all of America and it touches all
of us deeply. Don't ever think that we citizens don't care and aren't affected
by what happens to you. We do appreciate what you do, whether you ever
hear it from our lips or not. Trust in Christ as your Savior cuz none of us
knows when we will draw our last breath. God bless those that serve!!

Nick,
I couldn't force mtself to attend the memorial service tonight, but I have been sitting here thinking about you all evening. I saw some video on YouTube of your funeral and it brought so many memories back. I am afraid to go to bed tonight for fear of another late night call about another officer shot. I have buried too many officers around the state in my career and don't want to ever do that again. I was thinking tonight and the word martyr came up. I looked up the word in the Miriam Webster Disctionary on line and this line fit you so well;"a person who sacrifices something of great value and especially life itself for the sake of principle"

I miss you, my friend.

Nick,

Its been a year, my friend. I had all these thoughts in my head I wanted to say; now I sit here and can't think of any of them. I want you and your family to know that I think of you everyday. Buddy, you are greatly missed, but will not be forgotten. Protect me and my fellow brothers from your heavenly advantage point. I'll see you again, Nick.

Nick,
I can't believe it has been a year. I miss your smile and "what's up, Sarge" when I saw you. You have made life better for so many just by being there and being who you were. I miss you very much, my friend.

Well, here it is. The one year anniversary. It never gets easier. Tonight there will be a vigil and then after maybe another trip to the cemetary. This past week has been nothing but church and trips to the cemetary. We will never forget.

Please watch over your Brothers and Sisters in Blue as they need it.

April 24, 2008

Nick,

This past year has been hard on so many people, from your brothers in blue to your family - especially Joe. You would be so proud of him! He is such a wonderful young man. Though this has been and continues to be such a difficult situation, he has stood tall. You and Michelle have raised a son you would be (and I am sure you are) proud of. Please continue to watch over all of us down here! You are greatly missed.

Nick,
I can't believe its almost 1 year since you were killed in the line of duty, I just remember hearing it on the news. You are truly a hero that "will never die":
"We remember the officers who changed our lives
The men and woman who protected us day and night,
People who respect for their dedication to the cause,
For when faced with danger, they never even pause.
We remember the officers who always stood true,
Whatever the color of uniform, brown gray or blue,
With pride and integrity they say "To serve and protect",
For the giving of their life, we offer our respect.
We remember the officers who we never really knew,
Persons strong enough to answer the challenge are few,
With heavy hearts we mourn the officers in eternal rest,
There's more to these people than the badge on their chest."
Nick you are remembered by many and will continue to be remembered as a true hero. I truly believe only certain individuals can become police officers, it takes a lot of courage to wear that badge. May God bless you and your family during this time. Please watch over your fellow officers and keep them safe while they are patroling our streets.

Nick,
It's quickly approaching a one year anniversary of your trip to Heaven. It is hard to believe a year has gone by so quickly. I'm sure you've read the Tom Moor story about you today in the Tribune. I think of you on every call I make at the Wooden Indian. I think of your smile and your "what's up Sarge" comment everytime I saw you at Wal-Mart. Miss you my friend.

There is so much to be said, but not enough spcace. This saddens me to know that a wonderful life was taken for such a senseless crime. Growing up with Nick from Dickinson to La Salle, he has always been such a wonderful person. Later on, I also got the chance to work with Nick at a local hospital, 20 years later, he was still that caring and loving person. My friend Nick, I say to you sleep peacefully, you are still touching lives. Keep smilin ... your buddy...K

I got to know Nick's brother Tony and based on Tony and how our relationship has developed, I am truly touched by the type of man and officer Nick was. I wish I knew him - I have a sincere respect and appreciation for our officers and how they serve and protect our community. I think about the fallen officers and pray everyday. Thank you to the force. Chuck Shields

Nick, Sadly I am preparing to bury another fallen hero. It takes a part of my soul with each funeral, but I consider it the biggest honor to do what I can to show the fallen their proper respect and to be there for their families.

I think often of you and what you had potential to become and am saddened that we will never know. I do rejoice in knowing that you are in a much better place than we and that one day we will all be together again.

God Bless you, Nick.

Nick- You are truly missed everyday that goes by without you. I ask you to watch over your fellow officers and keep them safe while they fight crime on our violent streets. Don't let another officer be taken from us. Be with them always and watch over them. You and all your fellow officers are hero's who should be praised more often for all your hard work. I truly believe it takes a special person to put their life on the line everyday to help others. You are and always will be in my prayers. Lots of love to you and your family.

Nicky-
What can I say? I have missed so many things that it seems pointless to try to list them all. You were a terrific guy and I did not take the opportunity to tell you that. I know that you were going through a rough time, prior to your death, but you were going to be okay. Jeff and I truly cared about you and were here for you. We knew what you were going through, and would have made sure you would be okay. You would have moved on to better women-those who deserved what you offered and did not have hidden agendas.
We had countless BBQ's and sat and watch far too many movies. You were always there for us and I wish I had the opportunity to do the same. Every time I come home I see your house and wonder how Wrigley is doing. I miss seeing her sit in the driveway and dart after the mailman. Remember all the hamburgers and people food I feed her? You were so mad but you would forgive me in the end! I wish this were all a bad dream. But reality hits me when I see the for sale sign in the front yard-nicely manicured, but chopped up front tree. Nicky, I miss you terribly. You were a huge part of our family and we need you. A day doesn't go by that I don't miss you and think about you. I am truly struggling to make sense of this. Thank you for all that you did and putting your life on the line everyday and every night. I'll see you in my dreams...

Nick,
It's hard to believe we are starting 2008 without you. I still miss your smile and "what's up, Sarge." Nick, if you have any say up there, please don't help us not bury another one of ours. I miss you, my friend.
