Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Police Officer Sean Robert Clark

The fact that the suspect had 5 prior convictions of violent crimes, tells me that not only should he be charged with Officer Clarks death, but so should our judicial system. Officer Clark, may you rest in peace and your family find comfort in knowing that you are much appreciated for your hard work and dedication to providing a safe place for us to live. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.

This is to the friends, family, and co-workers. I just wanted to let you know that these guys are still not and will never be forgotten. I left a reflection before after the incident but tonight I read a poem about 2 officers that were killed. It brought back alot of pain and sorrow for me but it also brought back good memories of all the people that stood along the roadway during the funeral procession and supported those that were morning the lose of 2 fellow brothers in blue. Just wanted to get that off my heavy heart.

You came to my mind today (12-20-07)...I can not imagine what your family is feeling as they approach their first Christmas without you. I remember my few conversations with you and your complete excitement about being a new officer and your love for your work was apparent. Whenever work is less than enjoyable I remember your enthusiasm and I can't help but rededicate myself. You have done what few manage to accomplish-you were successful at work and at home with a beautiful family. I do pray regularly for your wife and children as God grants them the daily grace they need to carry on.

I come to the ODMP often to remember my late fiancé Dennis. Everytime I come here it breaks my heart to know that yet another officer has fallen and that yet another family has to live their lives without the man they loved. My heart goes out to everyone who knew and loved Officer Clark, especially to his wife. Know that you are not alone in the "journey" that you walk. Should you ever need anything please don't hesitate to contact me. The Davis Co. Sheriff's Office in Iowa will always know how to reach me. You will be in my thoughts.

From reading the reflections left for Sean, he sounds like he was a great man with a beautiful spirit. Those of you who knew him in life were so blessed to have been able to share in it. I hope that you will all continue to find a way to celebrate and remember Sean's life and the MAN that he was. Remember that Sean's life was about so much more than the way he died. Sean will continue to live on as long as we continue to remember him.

Officer Clark, thank you for helping to make this world a little safer for us all. YOU will not be forgotten. Please continue to watch over all of us as only you can. If you happen to bump into my late fiancé Dennis up there give him a big hug for me and the kids. It's been four years but we still miss him terribly.

Wishing you brighter and better days,

Jocelyne :)

The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I knew Sean when I was in high school, and he was a few years older than me. Our churches had youth retreats together, and Sean was like an older brother that made us laugh and gave us good guidance. I hadn't seen him in years, but I have fond memories of him and am terribly sad to know he is gone. To his wife - I am so sorry for your loss. To his children - your daddy was a good man, who loved the Lord. May the Lord wrap His arms around you all during this very very painful time.
