RiP Nick and Eugene. I am a volunteer police officer (Special Constable) from England. You both made the ultimate sacrifice in attempting to arrest a dangerous criminal and protect the life of others, without regards to your own. You are both heroes.

It's been 4 years; I cannot believe you have been out of our lives for this long already. I look at your picture everyday, and I cannot imagine how different our lives would be if you were still here. You are greatly missed, you will continue to live on in our hearts & memories and you can be certain your niece will know who you are and how you lived. Your act of bravery, courage & selflessness will always be an inspiration to not only your family but to others as well. I love you; we love you and miss you.

Nick,

I miss having breakfast with you on the bookstore balcony. I miss your book and music and movie recommendations. I wish I could throw snowballs across Madison Avenue with you or check my voicemail and hear one of your hilarious messages.

Thanks for always looking out for me and for being such a great friend.

Hey Nick,
Today is your birthday and I can't believe you would be 32. No longer just my kid brother, you would be just a man with a plan.
So much has happened since you were taken away from us.
The most important one was the birth of Sophia Nicole, your niece. Her middle name was given to her in honor of you.
She will grow up knowing her Uncle Nick. In fact I think she already does know you. There are times when I am holding her in front of your portrait and she smiles at your face. She even smiles at The Wolfman cover that we have hanging up.
Like I said she will know you, she will know how you lived and how you died. She will read your writings and also what was written about you. She will know you and be proud of her Uncle Nick.
I know you would be crazy about Sophia. She has changed our lives so very much. She is everything. She loves music and enjoys looking at books. She likes watching Yankee games and music videos. She is a very happy baby and we could not ask for more then that.
And so brother that is all for now.
I miss you.
I love you.
Happy Birthday bro.

It always saddens me when I hear of any brother APO falling in the line of duty. I was an APO in the 9th Pct, and then in Midtown North for almost 20 years. In my time, things were vastly diffrent. Thankfully, during my time of service, I never had to confront a violent or armed suspect, and made no arrests. However, I made many Civilian Friends and had lots of support from both my brother APO's, and Regular Department Officers. Time, age, and blindness may have taken me out of the APO's ranks, but none of these will ever take away my love for my brother officers, or the duty they perform, especially in today's world.

Rest In Peace, Brother.

I read Nicholas' book "The Wolfman." It showed what kind of great heart this brave man possessed. He had real talent but was an even better person. We should all have his courage. God bless you, Nicholas.

On the 2nd anniversary of Officer Pekearo's death, we honored his service in our patrol briefing by reading his entry from ODMP. Each day, we honor one fallen officer on the anniversary of their death so as to keep them in our thoughts, and also to remind us of the dangers inherent in our job. Officer Pekearo is not forgotten.
