My grandfather, Luther Roberts, was Elijah's son. This story is a fascinating part of our Roberts family history and I'm so glad to have this page to see my other distant relatives honoring and remembering my great-grandfather Elijah.

Your son Roscoe, was my grandfather. I was told growing up that our family had a background in law enforcement, but was never told the details or stories. It is fascinating to see distant relatives that I never knew existed. I retired from the City of Atlanta Police Department in 2003 as the Assistant Commander of the Central Business District (Zone 5). I continued in Law Enforcement as a Deputy Chief in the District Attorney’s Office. I couldn’t stay away from the action of the road and began my second law enforcement career with the Henry County Police Department in Georgia. I’m on year 37 of my public safety journey and I still enjoy every minute of it. It would be great to meet all of our extended family sometime.

This story has cleared up some holes in our family history. I had heard bits and pieces of my great grand father as a child. My grandfather was Roscoe Roberts, who was the 9-year old boy that stumbled upon the murder of his father by these two men. I've always wondered more about Elijah and now, based on other posts, I realize there is much more extended family from Elijah and distant cousins I never knew existed. It's an honor to be his great granddaughter and know that he was well respected in his service to his community.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 94th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. Like you, he was ambushed by a robber hiding in dense foliage. How very terrible that your son discovered your body, but I can see from the reflections left by your descendants that your memory has always been honored and revered.

Rest In Peace

I have a great since of pride in knowing you were my Great-Grandfather. My grandfather was one of your sons Herbert (POPPY) Roberts. He had 8 kids and countless grand-kids. I think you would have been proud of how he raised his family. I love knowing my family's heritage from Breathitt Co. KY. Thank you for passing on honor to the Roberts Family.
Hope to meet you someday in God's Kingdom.
