To the family and friends of Deputy Sheriff Jeff Mitchell and to his fellow officers of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department:

I was heartbroken to learn of the tragic death of this young dedicated officer. On behalf of our entire family, I extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you sustained when Deputy Mitchell was brutally murdered in the line of duty.

May you be comforted and supported by the warm embrace of your law enforcement family, and by other police survivors who share your painful journey.

My heart goes out to this young family. I know that Jeff profoundly touched the lives of many people and that he was an amazing husband, father, family member, friend and deputy. That is a wonderful legacy to leave to all those who cared for him.

Sacramento Sheriff's Department has endured the death of two heroic officers in a 2005 helicopter crash and the serious wounding of another officer in that same incident.
Now yet another death to grieve and mourn. Another blue angel, but how I wish this had not happened to Jeff.

I am praying that no other law enforcement officer is hurt in the apprehension of the despicable criminal who robbed Jeff of his life.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Jeff gave to his community and the citizens of California, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 27, 2006.
