Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Vernon Matthew Williams

To the family, friends, and officers that knew Deputy Williams, my thoughts and prayers are with you as you face the trying times ahead of you. Please know your not alone.

Here I am, lost in the light of the moon that comes through my window
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you and the roses

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Here I am, lost in the ashes of time, but who wants tomorrow?
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
My mind drifts away, we only have today

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way
I will sacrifice 'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow

When the veils are gone as I let you go, as I let you go

Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow
As I let you go I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow

Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide the thorns from the roses
It's you who is closest

It is a time of sorrow, it is a time of grief, and it is a sad time for officers and families during this sudden loss of life. We here at Cops Evangelist Ministries will have you in our prayers daily for the following days of grief. Remember that officers are honored to protect us on our homeland and we thank them for their sacrifice.

I was able to meet Officer Williams last year while they were having an open house for the new sub-station in Lakeland. I was saddened to hear the news today and want you to know you want be forgotten.

I would like to extend my deepest heartfelt condolences to the Williams family, friends, and the entire Polk County Sheriff's Office during this time of sadness and tradegy. You and your partner made the ultimate sacrafice and are the true definition of a heros, and your fellow brothers will bring in the crowd that committed this senseless act. This is such a dangerous job that not everyone can do, but you and your K-9 partner were one of the select few that went above and beyond the call of duty. Rest easy brother your gone but not forgotten.

Matt,

Rest in peace brother, we got the watch from here. You will be sorely missed at the Honor Guard meetings, and at work. Words can not express what ran through my mind when I found out you had passed on from this world, into the next to guard the streets of Heaven with Diogi. Take care, we got it from here, and we'll bring the guy who done this to justice.

God Speed.

To the family of Deputy Williams,
I am so sorry for lost,
My prayers are with you!
A DEPUTY DIED THE OTHER DAY.
PEOPLE MOURN THE LOSS. THEY SHAKE THEIR HEADS.
THEY SAY, WHAT A SHAME, GOOD MEN SHOULDN'T DIE THAT WAY.
FOR THOSE WHO KNEW HIM TRULY UNDERSTAND ALL WE LOST THE NIGHT DEATH CAME AND STOLE HIM AWAY.
IT'S NOT AS IF WE DON'T KNOW THE RISKS KNOW THAT EACH SUNRISE, AND EACH SUNSET MAY BE THE LAST WE'LL EVER SEE.
BUT AS FOR ME, I BELIEVED IF I WAS CAREFUL, AND I TOOK CARE OF MY PARTNERS IT WOULDN'T HAPPEN HERE.
IT COULDN'T HAPPEN HERE.
I LOST THAT ILLUSION HIS DEATH WIPED IT AWAY MY LOSS OF ILLUSION IS THE LEAST WE LOST THAT DAY.
PARTNER, FRIEND, CONFIDANTE COUNSELOR, HUSBAND, FATHER COP ALL GONE IN THE BLINK OF AN EYE.
HIS WIFE, AND CHILDREN LEFT ASKING WHY. WHY MY HUSBAND, WHY MY DADDY WHY DID MY HERO HAVE TO DIE?
TEARS FALL FROM MY EYES I CAN'T BEGIN TO ANSWER THEIR QUESTIONS WHEN I CAN'T ANSWER MINE.
ALL I HAVE TO OFFER ARE A HANDFULL OF HEARTFELT PROMISES.
TO TAKE BETTER CARE OF MY PARTNERS. TO THINK FIRST. TO BE A BETTER COP.
TO BE THERE FOR HIS CHILDREN, TO SMILE IN TIMES OF JOY. TO CRY IN TIMES OF GRIEF. AND FINALLY, TO INTRODUCE HIS CHILDREN TO THE MAN THEIR DADDY WAS.
MAYBE IF I CAN SHOW THEM WHAT HE STOOD FOR.
MAYBE SOMEDAY THEY CAN UNDERSTAND WHY HE FELL..

Deputy Sheriff Williams,

My heart is breaking for your loved ones, both your immediate family and your police family. I am sickened by the lack of regard and respect this monster had for human and canine life. I learned of your death from a dear friend who is participating in the National Police Canine Certification in Minnesota. They will help you watch over your friend that is competing there, and I am sure all of the awards that are accepted will be in yours and Diogi's honor.

I can promise neither of you died in vain. You and Diogi will NEVER be forgotten! You are true HEROS in every sense of the word.

I leave you with this peom in hopes that it may offer some comfort to all that know and love you....

"I'll Wait"

A police K9 explained to St. Peter
I'd rather stay here,
Outside the Pearly Gate.
I can’t come in yet, you see,
as my handler and partner is not yet with me.
I’ll be very quiet as I sit and wait,
I'll watch over him and pray that he's late.
Because those who love him dearly,
Still need his protection.
And the ones who don’t know him,
But still need his help.
I'll be very patient and wait,
I'll never let out a whimper or yelp.
I’ll be chewing my celestial bone,
Waiting for my partner to come home.
It would not be right if I went in alone,
For without my partner you see;
It just wouldn't be Heaven to me,
Without crossing the gates
Right by his side.
