Reflections for Staff Sergeant Michael Joseph Watts

Miss ya buddy! Think about you a lot! Wonder where you would be and what you’d be doing! Thinking about trying to replicate the tat you had on your back. I struggle with my inner good vs evil from time to time and really that was one of the best tat ideas I’ve seen and I’ve still not put ink to canvas yet. Hope to see you again in the next life my brotha!

Mike,
How has so much time passed? Your girls are beautiful and my boys keep in contact with them and your family. Trevor reminds me so much of you. They’re almost adults now! We still talk about you and I show them pictures. You were so kind and so funny. You were a wonderful brother and I thought to myself many times how awesome your parents are to have have raised such a wholesome family, full of love and happiness and memories. I feel honored to have been a part of your family and I grieved your death right alongside them even after my divorce from Vernon. I hope you’re up there smiling down at all of us, watching over all of us, and content alongside all of your friends and family who passed before and since you did. Maybe you’re even hanging out with my mom a little haha! Anyway, just wanted to stop by the page and say something. You’re never far from our minds. We miss and love you!

Hi dad, tomorrow is your birthday and moms taking Kenna and I to your grave. I wish you were here to watch Kenna and I grow up to be beautiful, independent women just like mom. I'm almost 14 and I've learned a lot of things, but the number one thing is that life isn't fair and it never will be. Even though I've never met you it is as if you're here with me. I've heard a lot of stories about you and I laugh every time because you were pretty stupid back then. I hope you are doing just as good as I am or even better. I wish I could tell you all these things but like I said life isn't fair. I love you dad, I always will.

Hi dad, I miss you so much and I wish you were here for your birthday. Just thinking of you hurts a lot but I've learned how to get through it. I'm almost 14 now and I've learned a lot of things. The number one thing is that life isn't fair, it never will be. I've never met you before but it is as if you are here with Kenna and I everyday. I love you, a lot and I hope that you are doing just as good as I am right now, or even better. I wish I could tell you all these things, but like I said life isn't fair.

Hi Mike,

It's been 12 years since you've been gone. I think about you often when I hear the Creed song "One Last Breath". That was the last song you sang when we hung out. I still remember the days when you would make fun of me and mimic the word "stupid" back at me cause I would be afraid to say bad words to others. Basic was so long ago but I still see you like it was yesterday. Malmstrom is a distant memory but still a great one. You had just bought your white car and I bought you dishes for your dorm. Great memories. I wonder how your girls look now? I hope there's a glimpse of you in them. Just wanted to say hello since its been forever. I hope your family back in Maryland are doing well.

To the family and friends of Staff Sergeant Michael Watts and his fellow officers in the Air Force Security Force

On behalf our entire family, we wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sgt. Galloway so tragically lost his life two years ago. His heroism, valor and bravery will be forever remembered.

May you be comforted by the support and caring of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors. We grieve for you and with you. Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater when he was fatally shot in April of 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers, so we know the anquish you are experiencing. Please know that the brotherhood and sisterhood of law enforcement will be by your side on each step of the journey.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the years of service Staff Sgt. Watts gave to his community and the citizens of our country, and the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on September 16, 2006.

Mikey, it's been awhile since i was at malmstrom but when i was there you were a true friend, great man, and a blessing on all that you came in contact with. It was a true privilage to have worked with you for years, to know you as a friend, too see you get married, to know that your kids were lucky as could be to have a father like you. They will know how great of a guy you were just by the positive things said about you always. I'll miss you bud and i love ya.. Rest in peace Mikey and you will live on in our hearts forever!

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

My dear son,
I miss you more and more with each passing day. Grandmom went to be with the Lord on 11-22-07, Thanksgiving Day. I know you greeted her with that wonderful hug of yours and you and Pop-Pop are happy to have her with you. Take care of her, my baby, and continue to watch over us here on Earth. Your dad talks to you daily and is so very proud of you. Your brother could use one of your hugs right now. Let him know you are walking with him each and every day and to draw strength from that. Your girls are getting so big and Valerie looks just like you. McKenna is a dork like her Nana, and I'm proud of her! I am going to make a scrapbook for each of them so they can get to know their daddy from when you were a baby until you went to be with the Lord. I love you, baby.

Mike,
You are in my thoughts often and I miss you dearly. Val is walking now and has almost all of her teeth. Kenna still remembers her dad because you left her so much love and a big impact on her life. She speaks of you often. Val looks more and more like you each day along with your temper. LOL
I love you Mike. Peace be with you.
