Reflections for Corporal Michael Douglas Young

As I look at your face a ton of emotions are set off. I still tell the stories of past to all the new. I tell them what I think a Trooper should be and gauge them by how you are. I wish you were here as well as Martha and the kids. You are lived and missed by many my friend. I think of you every day as you picture is on my desk to remind me to treat people as you would want to be treated. I will cherish all that you taught me.

Hey bud,
I am at P-22 Waycross getting ready to teach Below 100 at a network meeting and I was scrolling around ODMP for stats. I looked you up again and realized that tomorrow will be the anniversary date of when God called you home. Twelve years ago, WOW! I pass by the memorial to you in the case in the lobby at P-23 almost daily and think of you. SFC Phillips, Sgt. Kicklighter, and Cpl. Young made a good group of NCOs back in the day at P-23 I must say.
You are deeply missed and your legacy lives on in the hearts of those that were so privileged to have known you.
Love you man,
Clay

Cpl. Young was a tremendous asset to the law enforcement community. He was always available to share in his experience and wisdom. I never knew Mike to be anything other than a kind man with a big heart. He is truly missed.

As another year has passed your name is still talked within our halls at the Brunswick post. Talking to the younger genration trooper and telling them of how many citations you have written on holiday periods is an eye opener to some. My friend you are missed by your family and friends

Today I finished a travel trailer trip on U. S. Highway 82 from Alamogordo/Cloudcroft, New Mexico, to its intersection with Interstate 95, the location named in your honor. I'm writing a book/travelogue to promote RV travel the length of this highway, to assist the community that always supported me in my law enforcement career - Cloudcroft, New Mexico, a small village at 9,000 feet in the southern Rocky Mountains, 16 miles from the western end of U. S. Highway 82. Looked up your information when I saw your memorial plaque. Coincidentally, one of my best police friends died last year of cancer in San Antonio, Texas. His name - Michael Young. Thanks to you and your family for your dedication which helped protect a way of life that I and the other retired guys now enjoy. Rest in peace. My book will tell about you.

As I visited Sgt. Josh Kruger at Memorial Medical the other day, thoughts of one of the greatest men who ever lived flooded my mind. Seeing Josh there in the bed in a coma brought back memories of you friend as you laid there after that fateful crash. Mike, you were an amazing man and no doubt, God had his hand on your life. One day brother, one day, we will meet in the skies!

We think of you everyday. We still keep a picture of you in our den and it's one of the first things we see each morning as we begin our day. Ben still keeps your ID badge in his patrol car. It's clipped on the organizer over in the front passenger seat. It makes my heart glad every time I think of all the stories he has told of the two of you and how you took him under your wing and treated him like he was your own when he first came to Brunswick. Our children may not have ever met you, but believe me they know who you are! I look forward to the day that we will all see each other again.

Hey uncle mike. I still sit and think about all the great memories that was shared with the time you were here. It's still hard to believe you are not here with us. I know you are greatly missed. I laugh at how much Mckenzie and Maguire act and look just like you and buy watching them I can still feel your presence near. I wish you could have met the twins. I named the boy Michael after one of the greatest and humblest man i know. I hope that he turns out to be a great inspiration just as you were. I love you and thank you for everything including you crazy sayings, "everyone wants to be like mike well I want to be like Paul! Love you uncle never forgotten

There's not a year, month, day, moment that goes by without thinking or being reminded of Michael Douglas Young and how wonderful of a trooper, friend, man, husband, and father he was and is. He still manages to teach me a lesson or two without his physical presence. I thank all the men and women who pray and send warm wishes anytime. To my GSP family I love you guys and I feel comfort whenever I see those awesome colors of blue and grey or when I see a GSP flying down the highway. You all are in my prayers constantly.

Another year has come and it still feels as yesterday. We all have reminders of who you were, but it doesn't fill the void we have for when you were with us. I miss this person I consider a father figure. To the family I love you all.
