Your heroism and service is honored today, the 8th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember him for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold his family in my heart's embrace today. Rest In Peace

Kip was a good man. I remember him always stopping by and checking on me and my friends at the game farm ponds outside of Huntington all the time. He knew we weren't doing anything wrong...more than anything, I think he always stopped by because we always had a buttload of sunflower seeds and beef jerkey and he was sure to "Confiscate" some before he left.

Kip, you were a good guy, and I know everyone loved you.

Bless the family of Kip Draper.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

My husband, Dale, and I lived in Camrose, Alberta, Canada in the early 1980s when Elder Draper was serving his mission there. We instantly loved that young missionary and he warmed up to our family quickly. When his dad was suddenly taken, he spent a lot of time in our home sharing with us all the wonderful memories of a boy and his dad. He brought the cassette recording of his dad's funeral service to our home and asked that we be present when he listened to it for the first time. We visited with him and his mother in their Centerville home after his mission. Kip had his new bride, Cindy, with him and he looked happy beyond description. . . excited for the wonderful life that was ahead of him.
I only, just yesterday, found out that he passed away two years ago and my heart has been heavy since. He occupies a special place in our hearts. Our sincere and heartfelt condolences to you, Pat, Cindy and your wonderful family.
Susan.
