Leave a Reflection

Reflections for Officer John Bailey

My phone rang at 11:15 pm that fateful Saturday night. It was my daughter calling from the Cajon Pass to ask me if I knew why the traffic was at a stop. I checked the CHP website and told her of the accident. Then I prayed.
Thank you Officer Bailey, for your service and sacrifice to both country and state. From what I have read, you took not one, but two, alleged drunk drivers off that stretch of freeway that night. Thank you for protecting my daughter and infant grandaughter.
Our deepest condolences to the family, friends and co-workers of Officer Bailey. May Mrs. Bailey and their children find comfort in knowing just what a hero their husband and father is...he'll never be forgotten.

Greg,

I've loved you my entire life and will continue to love you and remember you for the wonderful brother you were to me. I was always so proud of you for all of your accomplishments and the respect everyone had for you. Words cannot express the sorrow and great loss that I feel. I have peace knowing that you are amongst other loved ones.

I had a dream the other night and in it you were dancing and smiling. There was a huge line of people wanting to dance and talk to you. I asked someone when will I get to dance with him. A voice replied, "You'll have to wait your turn." One day I will dance with you again.

Much love from your little sister,
Aimee

From a Friend of Mine...

THE SPOUSE OF A BADGE

Every time you give them a kiss and say you love them when they leave for duty, you never know if you will see them again…You pray every day that they are safe... And every time you see a patrol car pull up in front of your house or work your heart stops for a moment tell you see their face... But that day my come and the face you see won’t be theirs … And when the Chaplin steps out you know the worst...

But every day they leave for duty you know deep down this could happen even in a small town or city... The badge they wear makes them a target because they are out there protecting every one from evil and evil doesn’t care about them or anyone else… A man or women that put on a badge knows that they may never see the ones they love every time they go on duty…

But they put their lives on the line every time they go on duty even when they know it may be their last, but that don’t stop them and they go... And the spouse goes to work or takes care of the kids and house every day …But the fear is real and they deal the best they can… It must be hell just waiting for them to come home or to hear from them…

And you hear every day about a person who wears a badge, is hurt or killed in the line of duty every day …So the spouse has to live with fear just so you and I can sleep at night and kids to be able to play outside …And the roads are safer because of these men and women that put on that badge

"I am the Officer"

I have been where you fear to be,
I have seen what you fear to see,
I have done what you fear to do -
All these things I have done for you.

I am the person you lean upon,
The one you cast your scorn upon,
The one you bring your troubles to -
All these people I've been for you.

The one you ask to stand apart,
The one you feel should have no heart,
The one you call "The Officer in Blue,"
But I'm just a person, just like you.

And through the years I've come to see,
That I am not always what you ask of me;
So, take this badge ... take this gun ...
Will you take it ... will anyone?

And when you watch a person die
And hear a battered baby cry,
Then do you think that you can be
All these things you ask of me?

I met Officer Bailey for the first time when he walked into the store that I work at. We talked about how he was going to Iraq to serve with those fine men and women and about how long he had been a police officer. I got to know him pretty good from all the times he came in to the shop. I then ran into him again just recently when he got back from Iraq and once again we talked about is tour of duty. Sorry to say that was the last time I saw or talked to Officer Bailey. He was deffinatly an outstanding police officer and soldier! He will truly be missed by all. My heart goes out to the family and friends of Officer Bailey.

"A MAN IN BLUE"

A man in blue has lost his life in service of law.
The love that makes this sacrifice the greatest love of all.
A Police man was killed today, the reason I cannot say.
I don't know why he had to die.
The man in blue died for me and you;
we must remember him too.
Flags fly low, let use bow in prayer
for fallen police men everywhere;
and remember this: that they are missed.
The badge burns bright like an evening star
free from a world of war.

May you rest now from all the heavy burdens you carried as a servant to your community. I lost my brother (off duty) to a drunk driver and know he is there to meet you and trade road stories.
To the family - my deepest heartfelt sympathy. I have stood in your shoes and understand your grief. May his spirt of courage surround you on the journey you face ahead.

How Do You Live Your Dash

I read of a man who stood to speak at the funeral of a friend.

He referred to the dates of the tomstone from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came the date of birth and spoke the following date with tears, but he said what mattered most of all was the dash between those years. (1934-1998)

For the dash represents all the time that he spent alive on earth and now only those who loved him know what that little line is worth.

For it matters not, how much he won; the cars...the house...the cash, what matters is how we live and love and how we spend our dash.

So think about this long and hard..are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough to consider what's true and real, and always try to understand the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger, and show appreciation more and love the people in our lives like we've never done before.

If we treat each other with respect, and more often wear a smile. Remembering that this special dash might only last a while.

So, when your eulogy's being read with your life's actions to rehash would you be proud of the things that they said about how you spent your dash?

As not knowing John but just hearing of the love he had for his Country, family, friends, and the California Highway Patrol he certainly did live his dash respectfully. I would have been proud to have him as a husband, father, son, friend, or partner. God speed, and rest in peace with all the other angels.
