Our Kevin,

Very hard for me to write got my courage today. It's been 5 years since we lost you. On your Anniversary 1/27 it snowed 20 inches and the amazing NYPD still had your memorial. Over 150 family friends and your brother and sister in Blue attended. I want to Thank you for the snow Msgr Cassato said that you wanted it to be pretty. Adam was great he served mass that day along with Troy. He quoted a song verse that reminded him of you. "Tears from Heaven" from Eric Clapton. He misses you so very much. Alyways in our thoughts and heart our beautiful son.

I will share with you what we said at the service.

5 years ago today we lost our son Kevin. We still can't believe that he's gone. Kevin was a perfect son. He always loved to laugh and joke around. If you knew him then you knew there wasn't a day that he wouldn't pull a practical joke on someone. He loved gadgets. Especially cell phones and computers. If he could just see what we have now like the I pad and the I phones he would have a ball and be broke too. Kevin loved his family, we would see him at least once a week and he called almost every day. There were times that we didn't answer the phone because he called us so much!

We miss you Kevin your smile and your laughter.

But most of all we are proud of Kevin's achievements. He knew at a very young age that one day he will be one of New York’ s Finest.

He took his job seriously he was always there for others. On his beat he would take care of the homeless people and he was always a friend for anyone in need. It makes us feel good to know that our son cared for others. And that we brought him up well. We have said it many times that Kevin left us the greatest gift and that is his son Adam.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank our families and friends for all their love and support. Our new families The Manhattan North Grand Larceny Unit, The Deceased Officers Parents, The PBA, The Anchor Club and all the men and women of the NYPD for all your continued support to our family and most of all to Adam. Last year the Asian Jade Society and Captain Tommy Ng developed a scholarship in Kevin's name Thank You. My dear friends Marylu, Pete and her family have helped us with The Kevin Lee achievement award at P.S. 127, Adam’s Elementary school; this will be our third year remembering Kevin. Thank you all for your help in keeping Kevin’s name alive.

Within these past few years we have met and become close to the families that have lost their husbands, wives, sons and daughters. They have become part of our family. We look forward to spending time with them. Especially the great times we have sharing stories and laughing. We have supported each other and will always remember those who have given their lives for what they believe in, to serve and protect.

Lastly, we want to Thank Msgr. Cassato and The parishiers of St. Athanasius for embracing us into your community. Kevin actually lived his first few years in this area. He was born in Mimonities Hospital and we lived on 60 Street and New Utrecht. Then we moved to W. 10th street and bay parkway. So driving down the streets we are always reminded of those wonderful memories with Kevin.

I have made pocket rosaries to give out to everyone with the medal of St. Michael which is the patron saint of Police Officers. And coincidence it’s also Kevin’s and Adams middle name. Thank you and Be Safe!

Love you always,
Mommy, Daddy, Jeanine and Adam

Your heroism and service is honored today, the fourth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
