Your heroism and service is honored today, the sixth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

I have never met you personally, but we worked in the same 70precinct. I was a part of the FTU Impact that just turned out of the academy shortly before your passing. I remeber the distress call that night on Flatbush Ave and being one of the first officers on the scene to see you, before you was rushed to the hospital. The next day during roll call is when we were informed of your passing. That was the first saddest day I've experienced as an NYPD officer. It was seeing the hurt from your family, both from your immediate and on the job. That has stuck with me for a long time. But after hearing from the other senior/veteran officers and how they spoke highly of you, along with the final send off and salute from your 70 family, I knew that your family could at least be proud. I even thought to myself that had it been me, I would have wished the same turnout.

I wasn't at the 70 long enough to have known you personally, but I knew you as a Brother Officer and am proud to have worn the same uniform.

A day doesn't go by, without me thinking about you. I still remember the day I met you in Bay Ridge, long before either of us joined the Police force. I was tending bar, you came in to the pub right from a day of construction, wearing a jean jacket with the collar up. In your thick Irish brogue, you ordered a Heineken, a shot, and then to my amusement, with reckless abandonment, you started to profusely pack your newly bought pack of smokes. A few years later we ended up working in the same precinct and became friends. It's amazing how our paths crossed. I am blessed to have known you Frank.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

tragically. I never posted a reflection at that time, but
now looking at your picture I remember you. I hope that
your work family as been there for each other and for
your young family at home. It's easy to see that you
touched alot of hearts and have left some great memories for your family and friends. You are missed
