Odell...
My My how time has passed.. My friend you are gone but never ever forgotten. You touched so many and was a true friend to those of lucky enough to have had you in our lives even if for a brief moment, you left your mark. You were one of a kind. Someone who was there to give advice or just listen. You kept me out of alot of trouble, and helped me a time or two get into trouble when you introduced me to your wrestling friend, lol... Those were the good times. I will miss you always.

This reflection is long over due but i jut wanted to thank each and every one that left a reflection on my daddy's page. You can never know how much this means to me and and my family. There are alot of stories told by all of you that i never heard before and know there are a few more stories to add to our collection and can pass on to our children. My girls really never knew their paw paw but now the will know a little more about him and what a wonderful person and police officer he was. The stories and poems that are listed has helped through a lot of hard and hurtful times and knowing there are this many people out there that who care about and him means his life was purposeful. To know my dad helped to change so many lives and impacted lives so positively it warms my heart. Again thank you for all your reflections.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and miss you.

ODELL MY FRIEND, I STILL CANT GET OVER THE LOSS OF LOSING YOU AND BRANDON OR HOW RONALD HUSBAND GOT OFF SO LIGHT. ODELL, THERE HAS NEVER BEEN OR WILL EVER BE ANOTHER COP LIKE YOU. HELL ODELL, NO MATTER WHO MET YOU EVEN WITH A TICKET OR GOING TO JAIL THEY COULD NOT HELP BUT LOVE YOU. YOU HAD THAT GIFT AND I PRAY THAT I CAN TURN OUT TO BE HALF THE COP YOU ARE. AND YOU ARE STILL A COP YOUR IN HEAVEN WATCHING OVER AND PROTECTING YOUR FAMILY AND US LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS. I CAN STILL REMEMBER THE NIGHT YOU & I WAS ON PATROAL TOGETHER; U DID UNDER THE SPEED LIMIT NO MATTER WHERE WE WERE. WE SAW A BLACK CAT COME ACROSS THE ROAD AND I SAID, "LOOKS LIKE ITS GOING TO BE A BAD NIGHT" AND YOU LAUGHED. LATER ON IN THE NIGHT PAUL CALLED IN THAT HE WAS GOING 10-35 ( ONE RUNNING ) AND I ASKED IF WE WERE GOING TO BACK HIM UP. YOU LOOKED AT ME AND SAID,WITH A SMILE, "HANG ON". WHEN THE CALL WAS COMPLEATED AND THE SUSPECT WAS 10-15 YOU LOOKED AT ME AND SMILLED AND SAID "YOU DIDNT THINK I COULD DRIVE THAT FAST DID YA" ODELL I HAD THE PLEASURE OF MEETING YOUR FAMILY AT THE FUNERAL AND THE WORDS COULD NOT COME OUT ABOUT HOW I FEEL ABOUT YOU OR HOW BAD I FELT THAT I COULD NOT BE THERE WHEN THIS HAPPENED AND TO LET THEM KNOW THAT THEY ARE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS EVERY NIGHT. I KNOW YOU HAVE THE WATCH IN HEAVEN MY FRIEND; JUST PLEASE GUIDE ME AND GIVE ME THE COURAGE AND WISDOM TO BE HALF THE COP AND HALF THE MAN YOU WERE.

Brother Fite,
Although I never met you, after attending your funeral and hearing the stories of your love for others and your dedication to serving the children of God as a peacemaker, It was a GREAT loss that night to loose you in such a tragic event. You were remembered by several including those that were even jailed as they sent flowers to your funeral because they respected you so. My Heart goes out to your family and I will keep them in my prayers as you watch over them from heaven. I now your name is listed in Washington DC at the National Police Memorial but we also remembered you at The State F.O.P Memorial at the Jim Buck Ross Agriculture Museum in Jackson on May the 15th 2006.

Thanks to Lester Spell for giving us a spot just over the walkway from the sports museum. We remember all of the officers in the state each May with a noon service... We will remember you and Brandon again this year also. I hope that we can keep the walls bear but this year we will add Deputy Sheriff William John Walters

The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Thinking of you and your loved ones on this 2nd anniversary of your EOW. Continue to keep watch over all of them and let them feel your presence so they know you are near and looking out for them. There are no secret words that I can offer to help them with their grief except to take one day at a time, thats all any of us can do. You are a true hero and heroes never die. You will never be forgotten.

It's been almost 2 years since you left us, Daddy. I miss you even more today than that cold November night that Ronald Husband cowardly took you from us. I just thank God we got one last Thanksgiving with you. It's the best holiday I can remember. I can still remember the last hug i felt from you and the last "I love You" I heard. You helped Nathan and Kailey learn what a true hero is all about. You will never be forgotten or replaced. I love you bunches, Daddy.

I knew officer Odell Fite for a number of years and he was one of the best men I have ever known and if there was a person that ever had an effect on my life it was him. When i was in high school i worked at a gas station where Officer Fite would visit and i would talk and joke with him.One day I told him that I would like to be a fireman and he told me that i can do anything that i wanted to do.Over the years i got to know his daugther and son in law and i use to umpire his youngest sons little league games and if there was ever a problem he was always there to handle the situation. There has been a few times that he bailed me out of a few bad situations and i never got the chance to tell him thanks. So thanks alot for your commitment to me and to others the world is a lesser place with out officer fite but you will never be forgotten in our hearts you are always here and we know who is patroling the gates of heaven now and we know you are in good company up there.

"There are two words that when put together mean many different things to many different people. Two words that can put smiles on people's faces or anxiety in their hearts. Two words that may strike hatred in some and love in others. Two words that are more than just words. They are a title, an occupation, and a career. Better yet, they are two words that describe a lifestyle. A lifestyle loke no other for the men and women who choose to place a badge on their and promise to serve and protect. A lifestyle that may require that person to in a split second save someone's life while risking their own. A lifestyle that requires that person to face good and bad every single day that others don't see. A lifestyle that asks that a person wake up every morning without the assurance they will come home that night. Two words mean all that. Two words that sould forever be remembered. Those two small words are POLICE OFFICER."

Rest easy brother, we have the watch.....
