Reflections for Police Officer Matthew John Redding

I had the privilege of being involved in presenting Officer Redding with public recognition for his wonderful work in combating drunk driving. The irony of his death by the choice of an apparently impaired driver is hard to stomach. Have no doubt, Officer Matthew Redding is a heroic casualty in a war in which each of us either lives or dies and the drunk drivers make the choice. He will not be forgotten.

It was a great honor to have known you matt. I'll never forget our spanish class at Del Oro. You will always be in my thoughts. Im very sorry for the Redding familys loss, he is a loss for us all.

"Wuz up Kid?" Those were the words you could always expect out of Matt every time you saw him. It seems like just yesterday that he walked up to me on my C7 and introduced himself as the new Officer to the Department.

What I did not know at that time is what an incredible Officer he would turn out to be. He worked with a smile on his face and was always positive. He'd even have people he arrested thank him for being kind and professional. You could always depend on Matt in every situation now matter what it was.

Matt will be deeply missed and it will take a long time for this small agency to heal from this loss. Matt was the man that every parent wants this child to grow up and be, he loved life, his friends and the job.

Matt you taught me a lot in the four years we worked together, I will cherish the memories and you will always be a part of my life. I'll see you again someday.

Take care Bro,

Rocklin PD

I’ve been away from my office for a few days only to find so many of my brothers have fallen. I pray your family and friends will find strength and comfort in the reflections left by your extended family. May your spirit have a joyous homecoming and may you enjoy your eternal resting place “High on the mountain”.

Matt, I remember talking with you the many times I saw you in the jail when I worked in there. You had the drive and desire every cop should have. I'm glad we were able to be on several traffic stops together as well. You will be truly missed from everyone that works in Placer County. God Bless you

Matt, it was a pleasure to know you and watch you progress from Bag Boy at Bel Air to Officer with the Rocklin Police Department. You always took the time to ask how I was doing and how my son was doing in baseball. Your presence will be sorely missed as will that never ending smile that could warm anyones heart. May the wind always be at your back Matt.....

I heard of this tragedy from my BelAir store in Roseville just this evening while I bought a loaf of bread. My heart sank because it is you who protect me and my children.

God bless you, Officer Redding. Although I never met you, please know that your work is appreciated and there is a special place for you in heaven because you are guardian and an angel.

I love you Roseville and Rocklin officers! Please continue to keep us safe.

Matt,

I have so many memories of watching you and my brother play baseball, your smile whether we were at school or at the ballpark.

My last memory of you was seeing you at 7-11 a few weeks ago and thinking how grateful I was to have a great officer patroling the streets of my neighborhood. Thank you for your service to our city. The sacrifice of your life will never be forgotten.

To John, Marilyn and Mark,

I am so sorry for your loss. I know that there is a hole in your hearts that will never be filled. Lean on eachother and the memories of your courageous son/brother.

With respect and condolences,
