I being very close and personall friends with other officers respect what you did for the city of Rocklin and Roseville and When I attended your Memorial service the thousands of people there many that you touched and many like me who did not get that special chance to get to know you was amazing to me how many lives that you touched during your career as a officer. May you rest in peace~~God Bless.

I'm a Rocklin resident, married with a 16 yr old daughter. I'm 49 and lost my Dad to a stroke in 1993. Three years later I lost my younger brother (33 yrs old) to some heart disease. I still have my older brother & 2 sisters. My Dad, brothers & I were pretty avid deer hunters...my Dad used to call my nephew "Buck". The night my Dad died, my brothers & I left my Mom's house about midnight (I was raised in Redding) a huge 4-point buck jumped accross the road. My brothers & I joking said "Hey, that was Dad, trying to tell us something". Three years later, my little brother died of hyperntensive cardiovascular disease. We laid him to rest beside my Dad's grave at a beautiful cemetery in Redding with pine trees & manzanita all around. While waiting by the hearse for everyone to arrive, my older brother pointed out 3 bucks grazing about 100 yards from us. Again, we thought of that as some kind of signal from Dad and Darrin that all is well...don't worry about us. I won't say that I know your pain but I most definitely feel hurt by this loss. It's my loss that I didn't get to meet Matt in this life but I can asure you that these last couple of nights I fall asleep smiling that my Dad and my brother will share a special place with him.
May God bless the Redding family for giving us this man. Thank you and sincere condolences to the Rocklin PD for your loss. From what I know now about Matt, our lives have been made all the richer by his.

To Matt's Family and Jessica:
I thought that everyone did such a wonderful job at the services today. I commend all of you for having the strenght to get up and talk to all of those people. I can't even imagine how terrible this must be for you. My boyfriend is in law enforcement and I know that if I was in Jessica's position I would not have been that strong. Try to keep in mind that some day you will be together again. God bless you and best wishes.

As I witness these deaths of innocent officers, husbands, fathers, wives, and mothers, this one being from drunk driving, it inspires me to become a law enforcement officer. You will always be in our hearts Matt. Rest In Peace.

Matt I did not know you, but that is not to say that I did not know your type. From what I have heard of you over the past week you were a kind and caring friend, a professional officer, and just a great person to be around.

Be it taking the lead on a hot call or doing the most menial of tasks, you were always there to fill whatever role was asked of you.

I feel great sorrow for what happened to you Sunday morning and at the same time thank you for the job that you did.

My thoughts and prayers are with you, your family, and your fellow officers. Rest easy Matt.

never dreamed it would be me
My name for all eternity,
Recorded here at this hallowed place
Alas, my name, no more my face.

"In the line of duty," I hear them say;
My family knew the price to pay.
My folded flag stained with their tears;
We only had those few short years.

The badge no longer on my chest,
I sleep now in eternal rest.
My sword I pass to those behind,
And pray they keep this thought in mind.

I never dreamed it would be me,
And with heavy heart and bended knee,
I ask for all here from the past;
Dear God, let my name be the last.

UNKNOWN---

REST IN PEACE MATT. EVEN THOUGH I ONLY KNEW YOU A LITTLE YOU HAVE MADE A DIFFERENCE IN MY LIFE. THANK FOR PROTECTING US.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who unlocked your car after you accidentally locked the keys and your baby up at the mall.
I was the one who gave you a ride to the gas station when you ran out of gas on that back road.
I was the one who changed your tire because you couldn't figure out how to work the stupid scissor jack.
I was the one who directed you safely through that busy intersection when the traffic signals weren't working.
I was the one who gave you a jump-start after you left your lights on.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who found the item that identified the guy who raped your daughter.
I was the one who spent my days off in court to testify and help convict the man who beat your son so badly.
I was the one who located your grandmother in the woods that night when it was 22 degrees and she had wandered away from the nursing home.
I was the one who loaned you the raincoat the night we stood and watched your house burn.
I was the one who talked with you for two hours about your son running away from home.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who held your hand, wiped the blood out of you eyes, and calmed you down while the Fire Department cut you out of what was left of your car.
I was the one who called you at 2 a.m. to come pick up your 16 year old daughter because she had been drinking too much.
I was the one who knocked on your door at 4 a.m. to let you know your 16 year old daughter would never be coming home again.
I was the one who did CPR on your 3 year old after you found him in the pool.
I was the one who helped deliver your new baby when you didn't quite make it to the ER.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who got that snake out of your bathroom around midnight.
I was the one who got my knees and elbows scraped up fighting with the shoplifter with your carton of cigarettes.
I was the one who took your son for a "ride-along" so he could see what it was really like.
I was the one who gave you the right directions so you wouldn't miss that business meeting.
I was the one who stopped you to let you know your right rear tire was going flat.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who escorted your son's funeral procession from the church to the cemetery and cried behind my sunglasses because he was my friend, too.
I was the one watched over your place while you were on vacation.
I was the one who worked for you on Christmas Day so you could be off with your family.
I was the one who joked around with you after your truck got hit by a train and you walked away without a scratch.
I was the one was able to talk your husband into going into counseling with you.

You don't remember me, do you...?
I was the one who got shot when I pulled over a car for a traffic violation and the driver turned out to be an escaped convict who had sworn he would never go back to prison.
Oh, by the way, my memorial service is at 10:00 A.M.

Will you remember me now?

I will remember you!! RIP

SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY,
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.
A PIECE OF HIS COUNTRY HE SWORE TO PROTECT WILL BE BURIED AT HIS SIDE.
THE PERSON THAT KILLED HIM WILL STAND UP IN COURT DEMANDING HIS RIGHTS,
WHILE A YOUNG WIDOWED MOTHER MUST WORK FOR HER KIDS AND SPEND MANY LONG, LONELY NIGHTS.
THE BEAT THAT HE WALKED WAS A BATTLEFIELD, TOO, JUST AS IF HE'D GONE OFF TO WAR.
THOUGH THE FLAG OF OUR NATION WON'T FLY AT HALF STAFF, TO HIS NAME THEY WILL ADD A GOLD STAR.
YES, SOMEBODY KILLED A POLICEMAN TODAY, IN YOUR TOWN OR MINE.
WHILE WE SLEPT IN COMFORT BEHIND OUR LOCKED DOORS. A COP PUT HIS LIFE ON THE LINE.
NOW HIS GHOST WALKS A BEAT ON HIS DARK CITY STREET AND HE STANDS AT EACH NEW ROOKIE'S SIDE.
HE ANSWERED THE CALL, OF HIMSELF HE GAVE ALL,
AND A PART OF AMERICA DIED.
