I remember Greg O'rear relating the stabbing. Greg was chief deputy at the time and a long time family friend. Greg once told my dad, "weathers said he's got me good. Greg told my dad, I shoulda killed the bastard but I knocked him down and took the knife

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 69th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Laslater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
