As i sit here on Fort Jackson, SC i realize what it really mean to protct and serve. Working for any type of government agency is a tough job. I fully understand what it takes to wear any type of uniform. I tell you thank you for protecting not only me but the people of Harris County.I love you cousin and your greatly missed its coming upon the third year anniversary of you been gone and everytime my birthday comes around i think about you because that was the day that you retired. You have done an outstanding job here on earth and i commend you for that. I LOVE YOU!!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Nehemiah, I want to thank God for the time He allowed you to share with me. Your acts of brotherhood will never be forgotten. Remember when you were on your motor-cycle coming up Homestead and HPD had me pulled over for an expired sticker...you made a U-turn, came to my rescue and he let me go,(smile)the kids still talk about that. I thank you for being a blue angel. You will never be forgotten, and your presence will always be felt. I love you and miss you...

As the day's go by, and the sun set's each day, YOU are thought of. We miss you so much. You have been in various dreams...the message I don't get, but I do know you live in our hearts.
I know you enjoyed the visit on last week when we brought moma to see you. Mihelle really have you fixed up...at Paradise North. Taula, I know you liked those roses uncle Ray brought out there and placed on your grave side, they really represented you?...The stars do not struggle to shine, the rivers do not struggle to flow, and as long as God is in controll...this too will pass, justice(just-us) will be sought. We won't stop praying. I love you cousin.
Forever in my heart.

to the PICKENS and to my family in blue , it is indeed a sad day when a law enforcement officer dies , but an exceptionally sad day when it happens at the hands of a brother or sister of the thin blue . we all know the dangers that face us each and every time we leave our homes . whether or not we have the uniform on we are officers 24/7 . Nehemiah , my brave brother , you knew this well , your actions july 5 ,2005 proved it . for 18 years here in birmingham i've lived it too . i know that you are present with the LORD and just as you were on earth , a source of encouragement for all who were in your presence , so to are you now . no , i did'nt have the honor of meeting you , but i know you for i'm not only a fellow officer , but a pickens as well . i think we even kind of look alike . michele i don't know you , but i really would like to , i believe that Nehemiah and i are related . it is no coincidences here . stay strong my sister for GOD is always in control . continue to keep Nehemiah alive in your memory for you see he is alive , just transitioned to be with the LORD . for the WORD says to be absent from the body is to be present with the LORD . from the reflections left here by other family members indeed leads me to beleive that we are blood related . please forgive me , for i did not intend to use this as an agenda for myself , for truly it is with the utmost respect i honor a fellow officer , i honor deputy pickens . please know that in death just as in life Nehemiah is a child of GOD and he is home with his father . continue to stay strong and whatever the circumstances surrounding the shooting know that GOD is in control . HIS way is not ours and neither are HIS thoughts . i love you please contact me . i will try to contact the harris county constable office and leave my information there . one love
