Vern, it’s been 17 yrs since we lost you and I think of you every day. My daughter was sworn in today and I’m struggling with it. I am so proud of her, but terrified at the same time. We always talked about comparing makeover pictures from our girls, but never had the chance. Please help me have the strength to help her along the way. Will always miss you.

I exited I-94 in Battle Creek the other day and saw the sign marking the Detective LaVern S. Brann Memorial Highway. You are not forgotten brother.

Brother, I never got the chance to meet you but feel like I worked along side of you after all of the stories that have been told. Your memory and honor lives on. I only wish I had the privilege of knowing you in person. Rest easy brother. See you in the big precinct when it's my time. Until then, be our guardian.

Vern,

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. I will never forget 5/9/05. You never got a chance to make fun of me being "dolled up" with makeup by my daughter, like I did you.

I still have you programmed into my phone.

We miss you and you will never be forgotten.

Rest in Peace Brother, We have the watch now.

Vern,

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you. You never had a chance to make fun of me for my daughter putting makeup on me like I did you. I'm not sure I ever got over the day that you died.

You will forever be in our minds.

WE MISS YOU!!!!!

I was reading about another sensless shooting this weekend that took the lives of two officers in Las Vegas. It brought me back to Vern's page on this website. Vern is well-remembered in our community. He is missed by everyone who knew him. I can't believe that it has been more than 9 years since his death. What a good and decent man he was.

My brother...
I can't believe that it's been almost ten years. I miss you, man...
Your girls are doing so well... You'd be proud. I've been to visit you on many occasions, and each time, it seems surreal. I expect you to come up behind me as you've done so many times. Life is different... Less, without you.
You'll always be a part of my... Our lives. GodSpeed my friend. Save a place for me...

I do not know Detective Brann personally. However, I do remember very well standing at the side of Helmer Road paying my respects not just for Detective Brann. But, for other fellow officers as well that risks their lives everyday to protect and serve their community. It was amazing to see several police patrol cars come from all over the state and even as far away as Chicago. I pray that Mr Brann has a very special place in heaven and he is now BCPD's guardian angel :)

My thoughts and prayers are with Detective Brann's family. May God's Grace be forever instilled into Mr. Brann's family.

Thank you to the men and women of the Battle Creek Police that serves and protects our community

Sometimes it seems like yesterday . . . and sometimes it seems like forever. Every time it is incredibly sad that you were taken from all of us.

Never forgotten, my dear friend.

Hey Vern,
When I left BCPD I didn't expect to wind up back on the job in South Dakota. A year ago I lost two brothers and a third was wounded in a shoot out with a drunk. Yesterday was that anniversary and all I could think about was you and Huggy. Miss you brother.

Vern,

Not sure how I ended up here on your page today, my usual odd twists and turns while surfing the 'net, I guess.

Hard to believe its been over 7 years, and hard to believe its only been 7 years at the same time. You and Mel and the girls are often in our thoughts and always in our prayers. You were an exceptional cop and an exceptional man, and are remembered with so much love and respect by all who knew you, and who can ask for a better legacy than that?

Your heroism and service is honored today, the seventh anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

I pray for solace for all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace. Thanks to your friends for sharing their memories and devotion to you through their reflections.

Rest In Peace.
