Rest in Peace, Deputy Shelby. Your sacrifice is not forgotten.

Officer 11169

January 26, 2012

Deputy Shelby - You stood tall to protect a child who was not able to fight back - that says a lot about the quality of man you were. Two Fridays ago, I stood in the State Assembly hall when they voted on a motion in regards to next month's Peace Officers Memorial week. Your name was one of the almost 250 read off. Thank you for your service to the people of Las Animas County and the State of Colorado. You are not forgotten. May God Grant you eternal rest and may His perpetual light shine upon you.

Deputy Sheriff Shelby, one hundred and two (102) years later you are still remembered.

Thank you for your service.

Colorado lost a brave sheriff the day you died.

A tragic and unnecessary loss.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the one hundred and first anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered.

Rest In Peace.

Deputy Sheriff Shelby,

It has been 97 years ago yesterday that you made the ultimate sacrifice in the service to the people of Las Animas County.

I regret that it has taken so long for you to be honored in a fitting way, but I am pleased that from this point on, you will not be forgotten.

I am currently researching other officers killed in the line of duty from our department and hope to have them remembered as well.

Rest in peace

Deputy Sheriff Elliot Grubert
Las Animas County Sheriff's Department
