What's up D-Wayne. Not much here. Just work, you know, what I do best. I took a day off and went to morning briefing out West. Those of you that have worked Mansfield area know what I am talking about. Some how got to talking about you and Quarter Ponder. Me and you teasing him and Roger about how they would rather play in their food than eat it. I think what hurt us the most was knowing that you will never be there again in body. I think that you are there every morning though. Christie and I seen Hayden on the news the other night with your dad. They gave away a motorcycle to help out Hayden. The boy looks just like you. Poor kid. He looks like he is being well taken care of. But I guess you know that.I still think of things that we have done about every day. Tell D.K. I said hay. Christie was going throught some things that I had kept from the S.F.S.T. traing that we went to in Jefferson City. Found some pictures that I took when we switched Coy and Chainey's uniforms around in their dorm room. Also found the other items that you put in my suitcase. You know what I am talking about. I could not help but cry knowing that It will be a while until I see you again. Keep the car warm I will be there shortly. Ha Ha.

There are not many greater things that a man or woman can do than to give their life in service of others. Sgt. Graham defines the word "hero". There is no doubt that the good Lord has no choice but to welcome Sgt. Graham into the gates of heaven for eternity. May you rest in peace Sgt. Graham. God Bless!

To the family and friends of Sgt. DeWayne Graham and his fellow patrolmen with the Misouri State Highway Patrol:

On behalf of our entire family, I wanted to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Sgt. Graham was so brutally murdered. It is so infuriating to read of yet another murder by a criminal who would rather kill to evade arrest than pay the consequence for the criminal conduct he chose to commit. This was such a senseless and cowardly act.

May you continue to find comfort in the warm embrace of support and love from your law enforcement community. Undergoing a devasating experience like this forges bonds between blood families and police families that can never be broken.

Our family lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Department when he was fatally shot on April 23rd during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers. Larry left a loving wife and his son, born 2 1/2 months after Larry's murder, as well as all his extended family and friends who loved him so much. It is so heartbreaking that all these children are being deprived of their parent. My heart goes out to Hayden, but I know that God and his father are watching over him. I know that Heaven has another hero, but how I wish it had not happened.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the many years of service DeWayne gave to his community and the citizens of the state of Missouri, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on March 20, 2005.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with Dewayne's family. I know that they have an emptiness that will never go away.

I thank God everyday for those who put their lives on the line to protect mine.

May God Bless all of you and those who are left behind. Know that your sacrifice will never be forgotten and that you will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved you.

This has been a sorrow filled year for the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Of the 3 officers killed in the line of duty in 2005, I knew two of them.

When you see someone in uniform, please take a moment to thank them for all they do to ensure our safety.

Sincerely,

Joeli Barbour

Carl,
I attended your sons funeral and at time I could not relate to a loss of a son but I knew it had to be devistating. On August 1, 2005 my son of 27 years was killed on his motorcycle in a traffic crash. No words can explain how I feel and the pain the family has gone thru. Now I truely do know what you and your family had to deal with and my heart goes out to you and your family.
A friend forever,
Allan

THERE ARE ONLY A HANDFUL OF PEOPLE IN MY LIFE THAT I RESPECT AND DEWAYNE WAS ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE FOR ME. HE WAS MARRIED TO MY SISTER AND HIS SON HAYDEN IS MY NEPHEW. HE WAS AN AWESOME FATHER, BROTHER-IN-LAW, AND FRIEND. HE GAVE ME MY NICKNAME WHICH IS FINCA. I NEVER KNEW HOW HE CAME UP WITH THAT ONE, BUT THAT IS WHAT MOST OF MY FAMILY CALL ME NOW. I REMEMBER WHEN THEY BROUGHT HAYDEN HOME FROM THE HOSPITAL AND HOW HE LOVED TO DO ANYTHING FOR HIM EVEN CHANGING HIS DIAPER. THE PERSON RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS HAS TAKEN SO MUCH FROM ALL WHO KNEW AND LOVED DEWAYNE, BUT THIS PERSON CAN NEVER TAKE AWAY ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES WE HAVE MADE THROUGH THE YEARS WITH DEWAYNE. THANK YOU TO THE MSHP AND ALL WHO HAVE HELPED MAKE THIS EASIER FOR HAYDEN AND ALL OF US. I THINK ABOUT YOU EVERYDAY DEWAYNE. I LOVE YOU AND MISS YOU.

Right at 2 years ago Trooper Graham pulled me over on the bridge in Van Buren. I was headed home to a weekend visit with my family. I had gotten a late start on my trip that day and the drive was one frustration after another. Not paying attention,I sped into Van Buren and Sgt. Graham was right there on me. All I needed was a ticket to go along with the rest of my crummy day.

Sgt. Graham was very professional, courteous, even friendly. No one likes getting a ticket, even when they deserve one (I did), but at the end of it all I admired Sgt. Graham's ability to make me feel at ease, even as he handed me my copy of the summons.

Farewell Sgt. Graham, thanks for your service. We will remember.

My thoughts and prayers to his family, friends and fellow troopers, and to all who have lost someone in the line of duty. May the Lord's peace and comfort be with you all.
