Officer Feltis,
I had the honor of spending the week with your Daughter and wife at COPS Kids Camp this week. Your memory lives on in the lives of those who love you. Your daughter is an amazing young woman. She has a heart of gold and is a sensitive and caring young woman. No doubt a tribute to you and your wife and the love your family shared.
I am inspired by the strength of those you left behind and their love and dedication to you, and others, who have made the ultimate sacrifice. God Bless you and keep you close to Him and your family. Rest in Peace Sir and thank you for your service.

Today would have been our 25th wedding anniversary. James continues to be loved and greatly missed from our lives. We are blessed to be surrounded by so many wonderful people some we knew before 11 January 2005 and other that came into our lives at your injury and passing. James would be so proud of our daughter she is growing up to be a strong, confident, and caring young lady. You will never be forgotten.
Much Love, Mary

Officer Feltis, it has been six years since your passing and the scars from your death still run deep. We think of you often and are reminded of our loss as we enter the roll call room each day. Our agency has grown and our mission has expanded in the years since you left us. I think you would be proud of how far we have come. We miss you brother!

Dear Mary,
Please know that James and your family remain in our thoughts regularly. We remember that James's intention on January 11 was to protect the public as he did throughout his career. We also remember the huge sacrifice that you and Mary Elizabeth have made and while we honor you all during this week of remembrance, please know that we remember you during the entire year.

Officer Feltis-
I'll be returning to the Pentagon on Wednesday to welcome all of the riders from Law Enforcement United. The arrival ceremony will be held only a few hundred yards from where you were taken from us. I was at the Pentagon that fateful day and will always remember the sacrifice you made in protecting everyone who worked and visited there.
You will never be forgotten.
Sincerely,
Chris Cosgriff

James, Mary and Mary Elizabeth,
I am leaving this note to let you know that James, you are not forgotten. We often think of how things could have been different. I will ride once again in the Police Unity Tour and feel it is my honor to honor you.
Mary and Mary Elizabeth, my thoughts and prayers are with you always. May God Bless you both.

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

This past Saturday 2/14/09 marks James's 4th Anniversary of his End of Watch. The more time passes the greater the loss is felt by me and our daughter. Thanks to our wonderful friends, family and the Officers of the Pentagon Force Protection Agency we know that both of us are not alone. James would be very proud of his department. They honored Mary Elizabeth and me this past Saturday upon our visit to their roll call room which is dedicated to James. We are truly blessed with love, caring and understanding. Thank you everyone for your support and caring.

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Mary, while on travel someone spoke of your tragedy. You are truly an extrodinary person. Always a smile and kind words. I am so very sorry for this tragedy. It sounds like he was quite a wonderful person. I do know from spending time with you and hearing you speak of your daughter that God is truly with you both.
