Reflections for Officer Issac Veal

Aloha 1M256! Thought about you on August 16th when I came to work, but am not a good public speaker so couldn't come up with any organized thoughts that I could say at line up. But I'm sure I wasn't the only one thinking about you! A short time after you died, I bought a koa frame with a gold colored nameplate on it, and had the photo lab print up a nice photo of you (same one as on the website). Put it up in the hallway at the Wahiawa Station. My personal way of honoring a wonderful person and a good cop. As long as the station is there, everyone will see you when going through the kitchen to the squadroom. Your photo, as you were in real life, is a strong but peaceful influence to those who gaze upon it. Had a nice little ceremony to dedicate the photo shortly after it was put up. Your wife, kids, and church pastor were there. Such good people, hope they are all doing okay. Hope you are doing okay too. Until we meet again Sir. 1M258.

Please remember the fallen officers we have lost. Remember the men and women who died trying to make this world a safer and better place for us all to live in. Thank you Officer Veal for a job well done. Please continue to watch over us and protect us as only you can. You will forever be at our side and in our hearts.

For those of you who still have loved ones with us please take the time to tell them how much you appreciate and care about them.

IF I KNEW

If I knew it would be the last time
That I'd see you fall asleep,
I would tuck you in more tightly
and pray the Lord, your soul to keep.

If I knew it would be the last time
that I see you walk out the door,
I would give you a hug and kiss
and call you back for one more.

If I knew it would be the last time
I'd hear your voice lifted up in praise,
I would video tape each action and word,
so I could play them back day after day.

If I knew it would be the last time,
I could spare an extra minute
to stop and say "I love you,"
instead of assuming you would KNOW I do.

If I knew it would be the last time
I would be there to share your day,
Well I'm sure you'll have so many more,
so I can let just this one slip away.

For surely there's always tomorrow
to make up for an oversight,
and we always get a second chance
to make everything just right.

There will always be another day
to say "I love you,"
And certainly there's another chance
to say our "Anything I can do?"

But just in case I might be wrong,
and today is all I get,
I'd like to say how much I love you
and I hope we never forget.

Tomorrow is not promised to anyone,
young or old alike,
And today may be the last chance
you get to hold your loved one tight.

So if you're waiting for tomorrow,
why not do it today?
For if tomorrow never comes,
you'll surely regret the day,

That you didn't take that extra time
for a smile, a hug, or a kiss
and you were too busy to grant someone,
what turned out to be their one last wish.

So hold your loved ones close today,
and whisper in their ear,
Tell them how much you love them
and that you'll always hold them dear

Take time to say "I'm sorry,"
"Please forgive me," "Thank you," or "It's okay."
And if tomorrow never comes,
you'll have no regrets about today.

I've worked with a few former HPD officers; Tom Dang, Mark Woodward, and Doug Chinn, and I've ridden along with HPD. You come from a good crew. God holds a special place for those who give their lives for others. May your family and friends take some solace in that fact. God Bless and Keep You Always, Brother. Ohana Blue

Mr.Veal ..1m256.. I will never forget your voice. In fact that day all this mess happened I was to have your radio. I traded it because I had a strange feeling all day. I didn't even want to be at work. But I was there. I usually take D2 because its an easy radio. Well when we got the first call an officer might be involved...we in dispatch just waited. The person who did take the radio went on a break so one of the newer dispatchers was on ad she did an amazing job. We all know no one would be hurt because everyone is on it and so professional on D2 radio. And then the news came. The divison was surreal. We didnt know how to act or be. They sent in Rev. Kikuta right away but no one talked to him. Of course the pipeline started as to what happened, what didnt happen, what should of happened. A few more months and you have made it out we were told. And then it hit as we went home. Some of us live that way where you had your accident that night. Some of us have husbands and friends who worked with you. We talked about what we could have done differently that night. I believe it was in God hands. I took the radio the next night and your beat partners ...some of the same ones who were the first to find you, were working. The radio was quiet that night and the next. No one filled your beat. No one could. Your voice I hear in my mind often. You have done this department proud. You have done this dispatcher proud. I cant remember working with a more professional officer than you in quiet some time. You were old school. Everything was "Yes Mamam', "Thank you,Mamam",something officers forget to do these days. You will be missed. Take care of the guys on D2 ...somehow I know they need you. I can hear it in thier voices.

Officer Isaac Veal
was a good, fair and understanding officer, He always kept a smile on his face and would make you laugh, and feel good about yourself and others. He loved his family, church and mostly love to worship the LORD..

He would always go out of his way to help the public and his beat partners where ever he went to.
He truely will be miss. now he is singing and standing with other fallen officers watching after all of us and his loving family and friends..
Officer Veal is now one of GOD'S angels
to serve and to protect us all..

My fiance, Dennis McElderry, was the first law enforcement casualty of 2003. Dennis died doing a job he loved, just as I'm sure Ike did. It saddens me to know that Dennis was not the first to die in the line of duty, nor will he and Ike be the last to die this way.

Having gone through the pain of losing Dennis I can truly understand and feel the pain that Officer Veal's family, friends, and co-workers must be feeling. My heart goes out to you all, especially to his wife. No one can truly understand the pain of our loss until they've walked in our shoes. I wish I could give you a few words of wisdom to help you through this tough time, but there isn't anything I can really say or do to make the situation better. Just know that my thoughts are with you.

Please accept my condolences on behalf of the McElderry family and remember that Ike is part of huge law enforcement family. If you ever need anything any number of them will be there for you (as I've quickly found out!) From reading the many reflections posted here, I am certain Ike was well respected and well loved.

Thank you Officer Veal for a job well done and for helping to make this world a safer place for us all. Please say "hello" to my fiance Dennis for me.

Peace, Love, Luck, Health, and Happiness!
