Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 8th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never diminishes respect. Your memory will always be honored and revered. Rest In Peace.

I pray for the solace of all those that love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever.

Today, as I went through some familiar names on ODMP, I came across SGT Andy Bailey's name. I did not know him but I graduated from school with his wife and she told me about him at another relative's funeral. Andy, you were apparewntly an inspiration to all who knew you and to your family I can only say, He was a good cop.

My honoring of Arlyn Gort, MI 1989 has led me to your remembrance. Honoring your father and husband, today, Father's Day. While I have no personal connection to Sergeant Bailey and his family, I just wanted to let you know that as a nurse, I appreciate his sacrifice to the safety of the people under his watch. Hoping your family is safe and peaceful in the 8 years since your loss.

It seems just yesterday that you were here. I will never forget I always got the Jackson Sun newspaper every Sunday and he would ask to look at the paper and wanted the coupons. He was very laid back & easy going. I just really hate what happened & it had a huge impact on everyone that he worked with. To his family: I am so sorry for your loss. I lost my father several years ago but not in this way. Never take your family or friends for granted because we aren't promised a tomorrow. My life has changed drastically after my father passed. It made me realize that things on earth aren't forever. God Bless his friends, co-workers, & family as they struggle dealing with this.

Thinking of you on the 4th anniversary of your EOW. Wishing things could have
turned out so differently for you. You deserved so much more for your 31 years
of service. I hate to see cops die and criminals live.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I told the story of Sgt. Andy Baily to my daughter as we were visiting the memorial to civil servants at the War Memorial Plaza in Nashville. My daughter's 5th grade class was on a field trip to visit the capitol. Sgt.Bailey's bravery in the line of duty will always be remembered and appreciated by the people of Jackson.

I just read about you for the first time. What a fine
reputation you had and what a great contribution you
made to your department. So sad you didn't get to enjoy your well deserved retirement. I just know the
retirement you are now experiencing is out of this
world. May God comfort your loved ones.

It's taken me a long time to finally write this, as I sit here with tear filled eyes I remember Andy asking me how my day was or if you passed by his door he would smile and say Hi. Andy was always quite and he didn't say a whole lot, but when he did speak you knew it would be important.
I didn't serve with JPD long, but I truly enjoyed my time there and I have never felt more of a bond, than with my fellow officers in Jackson. My heart goes out to Sgt. Bailey’s family and to my JPD family. I think of you all quite often, and you’re in my prayers daily.
I hope that we're all lucky enough to join Sgt. Bailey for the final roll call some day.

Reading the reflections of Sgt. Bailey by those who knew him and worked with him, it's very clear that he was a hero, not only for the way he died, but for the way he lived. May the Bailey family take comfort in knowing that Sgt. Bailey will always be remembered, even by those of us not fortunate enough to have met him.

While serving with ICITAP/CEPATT at the Baghdad Police College located in Baghdad, Iraq, I walked into the office of 1st Lt. Nazar and noticed a calender on his wall. The calender displayed a picture in memory of Andy. I shed one more of many tears for my friend.

For six years I worked as a deputy on patrol for the Madison County SO in Jackson, TN where I had the priveledge and honor to know Sgt. Bailey. One of my co-workers called me at home to inform me of the death of Sgt. Bailey. I received the call just minutes of returning home from the end of my shift, and was heart broken to hear the news. I have always wished I had a way to say good-bye and thank you. Sgt. Bailey was always kind to me and those around him. He was a man with a GENUINE good heart and the type of Police Officer I will always be proud to say I know. I use the present tense, because even though you have passed Sgt. and are in heaven, you are still here on the streets walking the beat because I carry you in my heart. To all my friends at JPD, I share in your sorrow but smile at the memories. You can't help but smile when you think of Sgt. Andy Bailey. To the family of Sgt. Bailey... may God bring you peace, and healing.

I worked with Andy for a short time after I hired on with the Jackson Police Department in 1975. We rode as partners on the night shift and he left an everlasting memory of his fun spirit and great personality. I still tell stories of our late night ventures. He will always be remembered and missed.

ANDY,

IT'S BEEN A YEAR TODAY SINCE WE LOST YOU. IT'S STILL HARD TO BELIEVE AND STILL SO SAD.

ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU ARE IN OUR HEARTS AND ALL OF YOUR FAMILY IS STILL IN OUR PRAYERS.
IT'S SAD TO THINK THAT WE DON'T TELL EACH OTHER HOW MUCH WE MEAN TO EACH OTHER UNTIL IT'S TOO LATE.....

I THINK WE'VE ALL LEARNED A HARD LESSON FROM YOUR DEATH.....DON'T TAKE ANYTHING OR ESPECIALLY ANYONE FOR GRANTED.

ALWAYS KNOW THAT YOU'RE IN OUR HEARTS AND REST IN PEACE IN HEAVEN....YOU EARNED IT.
