Reflections for Police Officer Darren Glen Medlin

When you walk through a storm
Hold your head up high
And don't be afraid of the dark
At the end of a storm
There's a golden sky
And the sweet silver song of a lark
Walk on through the wind
Walk on through the rain
Though your dreams be tossed and blown
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone
Walk on, walk on
With hope in your heart
And you'll never walk alone
You'll never walk alone

Darren was one of our favorite Cadets at the Game Warden Training Academy in Austin. I considered him a good friend, I was on of his instructors. RIP my friend!

Dad,
I'm 15 now not 2, I'm sorry for what happened to you. I miss you so much. I wish you could see how much I've grown, I'm taller than mom and Sarah. I'm starting to learn how to drive, I wish you could be the person who taught me. Sarah will be graduating next year, and she wants to be a nurse who helps babies. I want to visit where you were buried, maybe one of the boys will take me. We visit the police department as much as we can and they take such good care of us. So you have nothing to worry about. I'm so proud to say you're my father, you did so much for the world and I want to inspire people the way you inspired me. I love and miss you, you're forever in my heart.

Hard to understand how he only got 12 years and you have now been gone for 12 years. We will never understand but you will never ever be forgotten. Still talk about you all of the time. I remember that early morning telephone call like I just answered it. Some things will never be the same.

Sarah is so tall she is 13 turning 14 and the the 8th grade she has a boyfriend named Eli she has been dating him for 1 year I think. She is getting so tall gets that from you hopefully she wont be 6'4 like you. Mom been doing well, I think. I don't really know her age she lies or changes her age alot. I wish you could meet your Grandaughter Kherington she is a mess. Crystal is the same she is Crazy as well! Bobby well he is still in the Navy and I think he is going to stay in until he retires. he has no children yet. Daddy I just want you to know I miss you and will always love you.

To fully appreciate the heroes of the present, we must recognize our heroes of the past. Your heroism and service is honored today, the 6th anniversary year of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer who was murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
