Reflections for Trooper Kurt David Knapp

Kurt was a great friend to many. The memories that each of his friends have will be cherished for a lifetime. I know how much these DPS Troopers love their jobs but, my heart is sadden that sometimes it's the very thing they love that takes their lives.

For Jennifer, Makayla and Wyatt I pray that God will give you...
Hope for Tomorrow
Faith to get Through
Courage to Live
Strength to Survive &
Love for a Lifetime.

You will be truly missed, but I know you are looking down from Heaven and standing watch over your family and DPS Brothers. Thanks for making Texas a little safer! - Mitzie Tucker

Another Brother has passed from us. He has been carried into the Heavens upon his shield, carried before us to serve as a Guardian Angel of the Thin Blue Line. He stands his watch over those of us left behind. He will guide our steps and steady our hand. He is not truly gone from us, he has simply been promoted to a higher position.

Kurt was my brother in law- I have known him since highschool. He is the only man that ever dated my husband's sister that my husband did not want to kill. Later he was also the one to always make family functions bearable. He made us laugh. He was the kind of guy that accepted everyone, kicked back by the side of the pool, with a beer and took it all in. Everyone loved him. He loved his job and his family. Why don't the assholes ever die? At any rate, thanks for all the well wishes. It does make a difference.

Our prayers go out to the family of Trooper Kurt Knapp.
The policeman stood and faced his God,
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining.
Just as brightly as his brass.
"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To My church have you been true?"
The policeman squared his shoulders and said,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
can't always be a saint.
I've had to work most Sundays,
and at times my talk was rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.
But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills got just too steep.
And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.
I know I don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.
If you've a place for me here,
Lord, It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't.....I'll understand.
There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgment of his God.
"Step forward now, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."

Kurt, we have known each other for years and I can't remember a time when you weren't smiling. All through the college years and through the academy. All those times we spent talking and studying, you always were in a joyful mood. I sit here today with tears in my eyes and a smile on my face, because I know you are up in heaven smiling down on us. You have done well, and you will not be forgotten. God speed brother, and watch over us all.

Although there may be 250 miles between where you and I work, your untimely passing hits home. I am assigned to a DPS Helicopter in McAllen and work closely with your brothers and sisters in Region 8. They are my friends and, by proxy, so are you. May your passing be a reminder to all of us how quickly life can change. To Trooper Knapp's family: I know the sacrifice and the dedication that was required to do his job. I can say without hesitation that Kurt David Knapp left this life doing what he loved. Our thoughts are prayers are with you today.
