Rest in peace brother. We lost one of our own this week also, so I can understand what your department is going through right now. May God comfort your family and department during this terrible time. We all will join you and our fellow brothers in law enforcement one day. Be our guardian angels and watch over us as we do our jobs.

Dear Goddwin Family,

I am sorry to hear about your loss. Take some comfort in two verses from the Bible:"Blessed are they that mourn; for they shall be comforted." Matt. 5:4 and "Blessed are the peacemakers; for they shall be called the children of God." Matt. 5:9. God Bless.

TO:The family;loved ones;friends and department members: A POLICE OFFICER'S PRAYER:--- O, gentle Lord! Keep the day/night watch with me. As I begin my tour of duty, I ask your protection from all mental, spiritual and physical harm. Sustain me with the knowledge that I am doing your work, endeavoring to keep peace among your people. Help me be just as I enforce the law without prejudice or favor to anyone. May I be courageous but not reckless in carrying out my duties. Let me respond to all calls with haste realizing that so many are dependent on me for life and safety. Support me with your consoling power when I am tempted to think no one really cares and that I am taken for granted.Sustain in me the conviction that so many thousands do care and are grateful for my presence. Grant that I may be loyal to my partner and fellow officers, and that I may back them uup effectively when called upon for assistance.Lord,I ask that I may return safely, after my tour of duty,to my loved ones and those who love me.I pray that I may be a good and honorable police officer;and after my tour of duty is over here on earth, may I enjoy the peace and happiness of heaven that you have promised to those who serve you well.AMEN *** REST IN PEACE*** Sent to you by the father of Officer First Class J.D.Koeppen,Capital City Raleigh NC and Trooper D.C.Koeppen, NJ State Police.

I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
MY NAME FOR ALL ETERNITY.
RECORDED HERE AT THIS HALLOWED PLACE,
ALAS, MY NAME, NO MORE MY FACE.
"IN THE LINE OF DUTY" I HEAR THEM SAY.
MY FAMILY NOW THE PRICE TO PAY.
MY FOLDED FLAG STAINED WITH THEIR TEARS,
WE ONLY HAD THOSE FEW SHORT YEARS.
THE BADGE NO LONGER ON MY CHEST,
I SLEEP NOW IN ETERNAL REST.
MY SWORD I PASS TO THOSE BEHIND,
AND PRAY THEY KEEP THIS THOUGHT IN MIND.
I NEVER DREAMED IT WOULD BE ME,
AND WITH A HEAVY HEART AND BENDED KNEE,
I ASK FOR ALL HERE FROM THE PAST...

DEAR GOD LET MY NAME BE THE LAST.

Dear Deputy Goodwin's family:
I just wanted to write to you to let you know how truly sorry I am for your loss. I know the loss and pain you are feeling; I lost my dad on November 19th, 2002. He died in a similar manner, assisting a disabled vehicle. He was also a reserve officer for a several years before finally becoming a full-time officer and fulfilling that his dreams. I know that Deputy Goodwin must have been so VERY proud to make his dream come true, and I want you to know that, like my dad, he died doing what he loved. His service and sacrifice will NEVER be forgotten.

Again, I am sorry for your loss. You will be in the prayers of many!

Sincerely,
Valarie
