Your heroism and service is honored today, the 8th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Time never dimishes respect, and your memory will always be honored and revered. I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Your family is in my heart's embrace today.

Rest In Peace

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

Ron, as I was at the NLEO Memorial yesterday for the engraving of a young Montgomery County Officer, Luke Hoffman, I was thinking of your wonderful wife Jennifer and your son Shannon. Shannon and I talk almost every day. He was close to Maryland yesterday but because I was obligated to another surviving family I was unable to meet up with him. It's sad that I only get to see him - if I'm lucky - once a year. Jennifer is thought of every day and I pray her healing and sadness turns to joy as she reflects on the wonderful life she had with you for so many years. I am proud to know your family. Jennifer FO

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Thinking of you Jennifer as I now passed the anniversary of Marks death 14 years ago. Shannon has been a wonderful friend, I believe it is a reflection of the beautiful relationship you and Ron had. Ron will never be forgotten, my children visit this site and enjoy reading your reflections to your husband. I believe it helps my children see that Ron is the kind of man they should look to as a role model for a husband and father.

Think of you always, Jennifer Orsborne Wife of PO III Mark M. Filer EOW 08/24/1993 and PO III Christopher T. Orsborne EOW 07/01/1997 Montgomery County, Maryland

It cannot be 3 years on the 26th. It has been only a few heartbeats since you went out that door. How do people endure this? I miss you so much. Be at peace my Ronald.

Even though I never knew you, I wanted to stop here and thank you for your dedicated service to law enforcement. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten. You were so close to retirement and I wish you could have had some time after law enforcement to just relax as you surely earned it after such a dedicated career. I also have experienced the many people who came to me, said they were sorry and would be in touch but those personal visits or calls never came. They went on with their lives while my life has been changed forever. It is like reliving a bad dream every day for the rest of your life. Sometimes I feel like I have some type of contageous disease or bad luck that will rub off on them. But, the Blue Family will remember you every year. Those that love you will never forget you for as long as they walk this earth and they will keep your name alive. Keep watch over your family. Protect them and help ease some of their pain. You are a true hero and will never be forgotten.

Sergeant Phillips Family, May you always know that he will not be forgotten. TRUE hero's never are. We give thanks to him and the other fallen officer's and remember what they gave so we would have a safer place to live. We are not promised a tomorrow, so we should follow by their example. God Bless

It seems like people forget so soon. I know it is just yesterday to me, but do they really just go on in their daily lives remembering nothing of the promises made?, the words said?, the tears shed?? I just don't understand how they do it. Do we really make such a small dent in people's lives?
