Reflections for Police Officer Rodney Fredderick Pocceschi

Rod, You will be missed by your friends, family, and this Brotherhood. There is nothing more tragic than the loss of a human life, especially under these circumstances. You will always be remembered and never forgotten. It was a privilege and honor to work and serve with You. My family extends its deepest sympathy to your wife Maria and son Carson. I am proud that You gave the ultimate sacrifice and You are a hero.
God Bless You.

Trooper Shawn M. Williams

Our prayers are with you and your family during your hour of darkness. We will not forget the sacrifice your husband made in the protection of our community.
We pray God will give you comfort in the months ahead.

Reflecting on what you have given brings tears to my eyes, but it was your time to rest in heavenly peace. It is evident, that war continues not only in third world countries, but here as well. May GOD be with your family, and look over the officers left to carrier on.

I am very priviledged to work with the honorable and dedicated men and women of our department because I see what they give back to the community everyday. Our hearts are deeply saddened to have lost "one of the good ones", and I am sure we will never let his son forget what a hero his dad was in his ultimate sacrifice.

My heart skipped a beat when I was called with the news that a brother VBPD officer had fallen. When I heard the story of how this happened, I felt sick and empty. Rod, know that you will be remembered as a hero who made the ultimate scarifice, your son WILL know what a hero you were. May you walk with God in peace, and watch over the rest of us as we continue the fight. God bless you and your family.

We were all fortunate to know you while you were here.

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God
Which must always come to pass.
He hoped his shoes were shining
Just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman.
How shall I deal with you?
Have you always turned the other cheek?
To my church have you been true?"

The policeman spoke with shoulders squared,
"No, Lord, I guess I ain't,
Because those of us who carry badges
Can't always be a saint.

I've had to work most Sundays,
And at times my talk was rough,
And sometimes I've been violent,
Because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny,
That wasn't mine to keep....
Though I worked a lot of overtime
When the bills just got too steep.

And I never passed a cry for help,
Though at times I shook with fear.
And sometimes, God forgive me,
I've wept unmanly tears.

I probably don't deserve a place
Among the people here.
They never wanted me around
Except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord,
It needn't be so grand.
I never expected or had too much,
But if you don't...I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne
Where the saints had often trod.
As the policeman waited quietly,
For the judgement of his God.

"Step forward no, policeman,
You've borne your burdens well.
Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets,
You've done your time in hell."
