I was in the Marine Corps and asleep in my bed with my newlywed wife about one mile away from you when you were killed. Thank you for protecting the streets while I slept. Your service, in part, inspired me to become a cop. We were strangers but your senseless murder affected me. God Bless you and your Family.

I haven't been on your page for a while Rod. A lot of time has passed and most of my talking to you comes from inside. I hope other people that read these reflections see what a fantastic person you were. Every day I think about how things would be if you were here. I miss you. Please take care of us.

Hey Brother,

Thank you for your sacrifice !!!! Its very clear that you are dearly missed by family and friends.
I came across your name today as I was checking the ODMP website. I saw the banner for fallensofficersremembered.com
I did not know you or how bravely you lived until today.
Thank you seems like such a shallow thing to say.

GOD BLESS YOU MY FRIEND

Hey big, little brother;

visited your site this weekend; it's being kept up nicely and I am so grateful for the person/s who take the time after all these years.

Still moving forward with the mission to bring our officers home safely to their families and will not quit; the goal is to vest approx. 250,000 officers, and by then, the warranty will be up for others. God will provide! I have faith.

Missing you so much this weekend. It was still difficult to go to the site and even drive by it a couple times while in VA; I still have flashbacks and think what ifs and if onlys.....

Forever every day your sacrifice and the 19,000+ of other LEU's lives in my heart and soul and inspires me....

Love and miss your little, big sister....xo

At around 3:30 AM on June 23, 2003, my grandfather, Jim Cervera, received a phone call from the radio room. They said that you were in the hospital, and that my grandfather was wanted. He just became Deputy Chief only a month or so before. He woke me up, said he would be back in time for my birthday party. A few weeks later, I went with my mom, Shawn, and my grandparents, Jim and Cindy, to your funeral. We all cried for a long time. My mom and I visit your grave every so often and place flowers for you. You will always be remembered. We will always love and forever miss you.

Rod,

I pass by your memorial on my way to work everyday. You were on one of my best friends squad. The reality that a senseless murder like this could happen to such a great person and protector of our community sickens me! I pray for all my friends on the VBPD nightly-- I had the honor to run in your memory in the Police Week 5K this year...I did it for you and all the Officer's who have given the ultimate sacrifice...the facebook page that shares the foundation in your honor is awesome and "I tip my hat" to Gina & Jaquelyn for the outstanding job they do to keep your memory alive! THANK YOU for your service!!! You WILL not be forgotten!

Rod,
I parked today on Dam Neck Rd by the memorial erected since the day of your passing..... running radar. Just like you did that early morning stopping a speeder and end up dealing with a true bad guy.
You are remembered each year by your friends, family, and colleagues.
I will be retiring in September after 30 years service proud to have worn the uniform... just as you did!!

Happy Father's Day Rod! I'm sure you are looking over your son everyday and watching what a fine young man he is growing in to. He is polite, mannerly, smart (nothing like you - just kidding!). Hope you and dad are up in heaven and know this is your day.

I miss you!

I looked toward the clouds today, and for a moment saw your face
And wondered just where you have gone and hope it's a better place.
Did you show yourself to me today or tell me you're alright?
Or was it just a daydream playing tricks upon my sight?
Then I thought of when you left, you did not say a word.
We never said good-bye, but in our hearts, your good-bye was heard.
You changed our lives forever, your time here not in vain,
and hope you know we always wanted to keep you safe from pain.
We will always feel the void inside because you are not here, but each new thought you send our way let's us know you're always near. So until our journey nears it's end and we hear the angels sing, We'll face each new day as it comes and live off the love you bring!

YOU ARE PROBABLY SO PROUD OF WHAT JACLYN DID TO HELP RAISE MONEY FOR OUR ORGANIZATION. HER BRAVERY IS ASTOUNDING, JUST LIKE YOUR BRAVERY WAS AS AN OFFICER.

NEXT WEEK WE WILL REMEMBER DAD'S ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH ON APRIL 21. IT WILL BE 18 YEARS. I WISH HE WAS HERE TO SEE HIS GRANDCHILDREN. WE WILL THEN CELEBRATE YOUR OLDEST NEICE, DEVON'S, BIRTHDAY ON APRIL 25TH. SHE WILL BE 19.

IT JUST SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY THAT YOU WERE TAKEN FROM US. I HOPE MOM IS WITH YOU AND DONE WITH ALL HER SUFFERING SHE ENDURED AND WHAT HER SUFFERING DID TO OTHERS.

PLEASE WATCH OVER ALL THOSE LAW ENFORCEMENT RIDERS NEXT MONTH. KEEP THEM SAFE BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE ON THE ROADS JUST DON'T PAY ATTENTION.

I LOVE YOU RODNEY. THANK YOU FOR ALWAYS KEEPING VBPD OFFICER SCOTT HUMPHREY IN OUR LIVES. HE IS LIKE OUR BROTHER.
