Reflections for Officer Arnold Gunther Strickland

I dated Arnold over 40 years ago. For some reason, I had to look this up and remember him. Arnold was fun, kind, loving and honorable. I remember him fondly and am so sorry for his family, fellow officers and friends. I pray Arnold is walking the streets of gold with our Lord. Goodbye Arnold. I'll never forget you. RIP

I was often Arnold's partner on the DCH Fayette Hospital Ambulance in the mid-1980's. Besides being an excellent E.M.T. and driver, Arnold was one of the nicest men I ever knew. He always seemed so happy. No situation was too dangerous when someone needed his help. I never saw him in a situation that he could not deescalate. Whether acting as an E.M.T. or a Police Officer, he always came across as so respectful, friendly and willing to help that everyone truly loved him. I have never know a better man.

I was an Alabama State Trooper in Fayette County and worked with Arnold on occasion. Arnold was a close personal friend who periodically came by my home to visit when I was off duty. I knew Arnold to be cautious when dealing with people. I trusted his judgement and when this happened to him, I knew all too well that it could have been any one of us.

Hi Arnold, It has been seven years now since you were taken from us. I just wanted you to know I have not forgotten you. I still think about you all the time.I always will. I just found out from your niece that your beloved dog, Dutchess, died a few months after you were killed. She said Dutchess waited every night at the door for you to come home. She greived herself to death. I knew that was going to happen. I hope she is back with you. You will always be in my heart. I told Elzora about Dutchess. She cried. We all miss you.

Though I never knew him, he was part of my Law Enforcement family, and this loss will be with me the rest of my life. I have been in Law Enforcement, both as an officer and dispatcher, for over 30 years. May the God of all comfort continue to comfort & sustain his friends & family. I wish I'd known him, but look forward to meeting him in Heaven one day, where we can enjoy eternal peace. Rest in peace, my brother. You are dearly missed. May your reward be great!

Dear Arnold
Tears are in my eyes as I write to you. I miss you every day. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you. I think about your little Dog too. I'm sure she greived herself to death. I think about you leaving home to go to work and not comming home. I can see her looking at the dooor. I would come to the cemetary more often but it is so emotional for me. As I promised you I have never taken the memorial bracelet off of my left wrist except when I had surgery. I think I miss your smile most of all. My computer crashed and I lost the picture you sent me. It made me sick. I should have printed it. I miss your letters a lot too. I wish you could see my new partner, Rain, You would really like him. Ther are so many things I would like to talk to you about. Please don't forget me .
