Reflections for Senior Trooper Anthony Greg Cogdill

We just drove under Trooper Cogdill’s memorial bridge traveling home from Hilton Head. I looked up his name on the internet. I’m so sorry for your loss to the Cogdill family. Thinking of you all ❤️

Well, it has been a while since I visited this site. I placed flowers on your grave site May 30 and on your papaw's also for you. Took a new arrangement down by the highway and cleaned around your marker. Nineteen years seems like forever some days and other days like only yesterday. I know you would laugh when I think about you always being 32 in my mind; never old or wrinkled with saggy jowls. God blessed me today with memories shared from someone who knew you. He will never realize how much that meant to me. Still driving your Toyota loving knowing your hands steered that wheel. Getting closer to seeing you with each passing day. Love, Mom

Next week will be 17 years since we lost one of the good guys. The 98th Basic Patrol School is where Anthony and I met and spent the next 6 months together. I was stationed in Wake County for 12 years. Many times when I would get gas at the Training Academy gas pumps, I would stop and pay my respects at the patrol monument. Putting my hand on Anthony's name, is when the tears would flow. Patrol funerals are very hard, and darn near impossible when it's one that you ran with, sit beside at every meal, and became sworn with. Keep patrolling heaven brother, and I will proudly join you again when God calls me.

Hey Anthony and Family;

I'm running a 1/2 marathon in Boston on SUN for fallen LEOs with Anthony (and Jeff's) names on my back. Anthony would laugh and make a comment about me hauling my poundage that far - which is why I loved him. He was a good man and all of you should be proud of him. The world is a less better place since his death.

Time may have passed but you are not forgotten. I believe as long as someone remembers you or speaks your name, you are still with us.
Thank you for your heroism.

Well another Christmas has passed without you. It is the first Christmas since your death that our Cody did not give me anything or visit for a little while. I saw him at his grammy's for a few minutes. He is sick:( He is as tall as I and very handsome and well mannered. I hope some day he realizes how being with him is like being with a part of you and I can see him more often. In the meantime I hold both of you close in my heart and cherish every memory we have shared. Facing a new year with Christ carrying me through...thankful He is holding you in peace and love.

Attended the Haywood County Memorial Service today...beautiful ceremony; tough on the heart but very uplifting to feel the support of all the officers and families. Ten years or an eternity you are still missed every day I breath... my oldest.

I can't pass a trooper who has someone pulled over on the side of the road without lifting a prayer of thanks and protection. And often, that sight brings you close to my heart causing tears to form at cherished memories.

Although it has been a very long time since I have left you a note I still think about you every day.
Last week I was in DC with Sean's class trip. Although it was not on the schedule we went to the Law Enforcement memorial. Went straight to panel 11W, line 24 and just cried. Sean, without being asked got a piece of paper on took away your name.
Although it was very emotional and surreal actually seeing your name there it was good for me.
I still miss you as much as ever. I'll see you soon though.
