Reflections for Deputy Sheriff Bruce Kevin Lee

It has been 20 years since that devastating day. You will always be missed my very good friend and fellow beat partner-Riverside County Sheriff's Deputy. We worked together for 15 plus years and I have so many good memories of these times as well as learning from the best. I will always be grateful for all of your good deeds and friendship, especially when you would take the time to watch over my children when they walked to school at a young age. You my friend are truly missed by all that knew you. Rest in peace my brother for you are in a better place.

Bruce was a classmate and friend at Westchester High School in Los Angeles. A great man who elected to serve as a Deputy Sheriff in order to serve and protect. Superb sense of humor and always positive. We will always miss him. Sad loss.

Time swiftly moves but memories of the heart fade slow. Deputy Lee was my Riverside County Sheriff's Academy classmate, 81st Basic. We became very supportive of each other during the Academy during fall of 1980. We grew up not far from each other. Here I am 39 years later, proudly serving as a Department of Veterans Affairs Police Department officer. We were the 81st Basic. The days of revolvers, pencil to paper reports and taking time for each other rather than electronic devices.

Rest in peace Deputy Sheriff Lee. Wondering if you were related to actor Bruce Lee who died I believe in 1973 too.

Bruce, it has been 15 years since you were taken from us and you are still missed and remembered by so many. This is the 6th year that the Thermal station remembers you on a day near May 13, by meeting at your highway sign near Home Depot putting up a wreath, then going to the highway sign near Vons and putting up another wreath. Many of your co-workers and friends then run/walk/bike to the Civic Center Park and put up a wreath on the memorial there too. I have joined the walking group the last 2 years, along with Nancy, Billie, Anna and Erica Lee. Erica is Anna's daughter and her middle name is in honor of you.

Plus I am told there are many posts on social media. I'm not on the social media sites but it is nice to hear all the great things people have to say about you. To this day I hear great stories about you that I had not heard before, most of them are about how you helped someone or how kind you were to them...I love hearing these stories. I hope you knew how much your were loved and how many lives you touched.

Erica Lee has also run in your memory at the Dia de los Muertos Run in Coachella, and Rosemarie's daughter, Stephanie, has ridden her bike at the Patriot's Ride in Indian Wells in your memory as well. You even touched the lives of these young people who chose to honor you in these ways.

I have new friends now...people I never expected to have in my life...they are families of other fallen officers. I treasure their friendships because they understand what it is to feel this hole in our hearts yet know we need to find new purpose in our lives. We love to share stories about you as we laugh one minute and cry the next. One of these new friends is Remedios, wife of fallen CHP officer Saul Martinez. I remember the morning you came in and told me about Saul's accident. Never did I dream Remedios and I would become friends because we shared this kind of loss in common. But like her husband, she is a very giving person. We attend most memorial events together. It is nice to have someone in the desert to share these events. We both think it is important for the agencies to continue to recognize your sacrifices, so we try to attend any event where you, Saul and other fallen officers are being remembered here in the desert.

I was truly blessed to have you in my life. I miss you so much. I hope you hear all the prayers I send your way, Love, Patsy

14 years ago you were tragically taken from us. I remember the last time I saw you like it was yesterday. We were celebrating Mother's Day & you were taking a nap after a delicious meal. Never did I think that would be the last time we'd see your smiling face. A few days later we got that terrible call. Walking into that hospital was surreal. Like the scenes you see in the movies. In the days, months & years that followed seeing the support from the law enforcement family take care of their own was amazing. I grew a whole new level of respect for them. So, THANK YOU to all the men & women who serve & protect us daily. We lost an amazing deputy but I've gained a special "Deputy Angel" watching over me. Bruce, we miss you & love you. You will never be forgotten. RIP, Deputy Lee.

Bruce, you made a lasting impression on me. You were one of the really good and kind deputies. I remember you coming by and taking a break inside my storage facility just to find a safe place to rest. You always had a kind word and a smile on your face.
