I am a descendant of Sheriff Miller (by adoption) and have served as a Peace officer in Texas and Louisiana. It is my belief that the sheer grit exhibited by those who came before us set a very high standard, indeed. It is my hope that the actions, selflessness and heroism that they exhibited, day to day, shall never fade away. In this day and age when someone is celebrated because of how well they can flaunt themselves upon a stage or catch a ball. Once, Heroes were those who kept the Wolves at bay, and, by doing so, helped a golden age to arise.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 128th anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Rest In Peace.
