Reflections for Patrolman Jeremy Edward "Jay" Carruth

Patrolman Carruth,
On today, the 20th anniversary of your death I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice-not just for your Community but for our Country as well when you served with the LAARNG. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

My heart is hurting so bad thinking about you today. I get so sad when I think about how I miss you, but I don’t really know what I miss because I don’t remember. I want to know you so badly. I want to hear your voice and know what your hugs feel like. I wish I didn’t know what it feels like to love someone, but not even know what you love about that person. I hope you are proud of me. Watch over my little Axl for me.

Love,
Margie

I served in the Army with him, I was looking to find some old friends and found this article. I am very saddened about this. I remember, he could run like the wind. I went to basic training and AIT with him at Ft. Leonard Wood Missouri. He was always a leader and I knew he would go on to great things. He taught me how to breathe when running and even though I could never catch him, he helped me do the best I could. He set the record at 9 minutes 15 seconds for the two mile run. I'll never forget him, God speed my friend.

Well, we are getting ready for another luncheon at your moms in your and Davids honor. Hard to believe it's been eleven years. I know you are watching over the guys. If it weren't for some of the guys here our special buds I don't know what I would do. They are truly a great strength and an honor to work with as you were. The girls are growing up to fast. What beautiful ladies they are. Your mom suckered me into committing to run in the 5K in Washington so I have been working on that. That woman. My best friend. Amazing how God moves us. Miss you my brother.

It's been over 10 years since Officer Carruth's senseless murder, but it is obvious from reading these reflections that no amount of time will dim your love for him. My cousin, Gary, was friends with Jay and joined the APD because of him. I know that Jay's death still effects Gary today.

I pray for peace in the hearts and minds of Jay's parents, wife, daughters, sisters, friends, the APD, and anyone who knew and loved Jay. May he watch over you and protect you until you meet again.
