Reflections for Police Officer Sheila Herring

Officer Herring, I am so so sorry for you untimely death. It's been a while since I've been to your site but I haven't forgotten what that selfish individual did to you and your family. Your dedication to your community has not been forgotten and the monster that took your life will never be forgotten.
Rest easy sister.

I have not forgotten your dedication. Your smile would light up the booking department. I think of you every time I wear my uniform. We will wear the badge that honors you, my sister.

THE POLICEMAN'S LAST ROLL CALL ...

THE POLICEMAN STOOD AND FACED HIS GOD, WHICH MUST ALWAYS COME TO PASS. HE
HOPED HIS SHOES WERE SHINING, JUST AS BRIGHTLY AS HIS BRASS. "STEP FORWARD
NOW, POLICEMAN. HOW SHALL I DEAL WITH YOU? HAVE YOU ALWAYS TURNED THE OTHER
CHEEK? TO MY CHURCH HAVE YOU BEEN TRUE?"

THE POLICEMAN SQUARED his shoulders and said, "No, Lord, I guess I ain't.
Because those of us who carry badges can't always be a Saint. I've had to
work most Sundays, and at times my talk was rough, and sometimes I've been
violent because the streets are awfully tough. But I never took a penny that
wasn't mine to keep, though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills just
got to steep. And I never passed a cry for help, though times I shook with
fear. And sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept many unmanly tears. I know I
don't deserve a place among the people here, they never wanted me around
except to calm their fear. If you've a place for me Lord, it needn't be so
grand. I never expected or had too much, but if you don't, I'll understand."

There was silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod. As
the policeman waited quietly, for the judgement of his God. "Step forward
now, policeman, you've borne your burdens well. Come walk a beat on Heaven's
streets, you've done your time in hell."

For you Sheila....Semper Fi....Rest in Peace my friend.

Today I went to get my taxes done, the lady was wearing a memorial band for fallen officers. I asked her for whom she wore it....it turned out it was my class mate Sheila Herring. We both began to share our past memories and beloved thoughts of her. We laughed and got sad all in an hour of two strangers somehow coming together because of an amazing woman and officer like Sheila Herring. You are greatly missed and loved...and NEVER EVER FORGOTTEN !!!!

Your heroism and service is honored today, the ninth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

Your memory will always be honored and revered for time never diminishes respect. I pray for solace for all those who love and miss you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. I hold your mom, your twin sister Sharon, your sister Lisa, your daughter and your other family members in my heart's embrace today.

I still miss you like it was yesterday. I can't believe it's been 9 years. Time does not heal all wounds. Time just moves ahead and takes us with it. Missing and loving you still. I love beyond ETERNITY.

Its hard to believe that you went to heaven 9 years ago today. I think of you every day. Many times laughing at the crazy things we talked about. Your family is growing and is so beautiful. I enjoy the times I get to spend with them. I pray for them often.

I went to a MLK Jr. ceremony today and told the people at the table about you. They remembered.

You will be Forever in my Heart...

Just wanted to let you know my nieces just can't seem to catch a break when it comes to tragedy. Our baby niece China turned 21 on November 12 and her mom is in the hospital for having a stroke and seizures. We are praying for her recovery but it doesn't look good. I may be going home to be with family for a few days. I love you and miss you STILL!!!!!!!

You just don't know how much I am missing you. The best thing about having an identical twin is being able to talk to you about everything. You always had great advice and most important you always let me get it out of my system by just listening. I love and miss you so much sometimes it just sucks. I feel bad when I see other identical twins together because it's not fair. They have their twin here and I don't. I have been collecting heart necklaces. I remember when Weedies died you started collecting hearts. I makes me think about you and Weedies.

Love You

I can't believe Weedies would have been 25 on October 9, 2011. She has been gone 18 years. Your precious baby daughter was killed in a car accident August 12, 1993 but it feels like yesterday. You were given the Valor Award on August 12, 2003. This was quite a coincidence. I hope it means you two are together at last. Missing you always but FOREVER IN MY HEART.

I didn't know you, but, having come across your story, and seeing your face, and realizing that you are beside your 6 year old daughter, is something special. Occaisionally, I think about you, and read your obituary on findagrave.com
It is tragic what has befallen you and your daughter. Both of you, Gone way too soon.

Its been over 9 years since we graduated from the academy. I will never forget you. There was a reason God puts certain people in your life. You have made me a better person. I never patrol alone because I know you are with me. Thank you for keeping me safe and guiding me. I keep your picture around my neck. When I get a high priority call, I know I am not alone. You are a great friend gone way too soon.

I am still missing you. I miss seeing you everyday. It seems like no matter what we had to do we always saw each everyday when you moved to Virginia after us being apart for 17 years. I guess I was suppose to see you everyday for the last four years of your life.

I never knew you or know any police officers personally but I would just like to say you are in my thoughts and was really touched more so by your death because you survived 10 years as an officer in one of the worse cities of our country in Detroit but you are only here in Norfolk for 11 mos and you lost your precious life. Norfolk is in no way near what Detroit is but on second thought it scares me that Norfolk could actually be worse than Detroit. God Bless you. You did not deserve what happened to you.

It's amazing people still remember you. One of your fellow police officers came up to me in the mall and said I gave him goose bumps. He said he knew I had to be your Identical twin sis it's so crazy to see you in me. He said it was scary.

I miss you. Sometimes I look in the mirror and say boy I'm looking like Sheila today:)

Went home last week got a chance to see the whole family. Went to the cemetary and saw your final resting place. I still miss you. Your beloved Monte Raphael (your very much spoiled poodle also spoiled by mommy) had a heart problem and passed on either late Sunday or early Monday.

I remember the first time I met your twin sister. I went to her house to study with you. I immediately noticed you guys had the same type of skirts on with open toed shoes. Then it clicked. Everything that was puzzling to me, became clear. The two of you were one. I miss you everyday and I keep you close to my heart and forever in my memories.
We love and miss you dearly

I saw identical twin guys in the Bahamas it was funny one was at the bar at night and one was working in the restaurant the next morning. I went to speak I noticed the name and I immediately knew twins. It would have messed up anyone else. I remember we used to do that all the time. We would get random people(we thought)and come up to us and just start talking like we knew them, but I guess one of us did know them. That was always the best thing about being identical. We always keep them guessing. We are going to Mexico next week:) Yes it was you that got us traveling.

I love you and missing you
