Reflections for Roundsman Robert A. Montgomery

Roundsman Montgomery‘s photograph hangs in the current 19 PCT station house on E. 67th St. He was the first officer killed in the line of duty from that command. From what I know he left behind a wife and a son. His son had no children, and he died a widower himself in 1966. He lived in Stanhope NJ. This above image of Robert Montgomery came from (The National Police Gazette) magazine.

Today marks the 122nd anniversary of Roundsman Montgomery's murder at the hands of a lousy bum who somehow managed a police job. I don't believe this guy was EVER a cop, just a bum in a uniform. To throw away a job in such a manner instead of taking his punishment like a man, he should have been ashamed.

There truly has been (and sometimes still is) injustice in the disciplining of police officers, and for all we know this guy might have had a good reason to be mad, but to take this officer's life after getting caught, that is despicable.

Roundsman Mongomery, you deserve to forever Rest in Peace and God Bless you Brother.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 123rd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.
