Reflections for Patrolman Robert J. Lyons

Robert Lyons was my maternal Grandfather. I never met him. My mother was about 5 when he died.
He died a few days before the beginning of the Depression. His death devastated the Lyons family.
My Mother and her brother were raised by my Grandmother and my Grandmother's parents after his death. It was not an easy time for any of them. I deeply loved my grandmother. I wish I had asked her more about her Robert. My Mother did not talk about him. So much I wish I knew now. I do know that he looked a lot like my son who is 37 now, seven years older than Robert when he passed. I hope he was a fine, loving, intelligent man.

I said a little prayer today for Patrolman Lyons and his family. He may be gone but never forgotten. He will always be a New York HERO.

Your heroism and service is honored today, the 82nd anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer.

This was my great grandfather. His widow, my great grandmother, lived until I was around 6.I know that after Robert was killed my young great grandmother had to raise my grandmother on her own.I know little about Robert except that he was strikingly handsome. We black Irish, we are lookers.
