Reflections for Police Officer James A. Shields

Jim,
Has it been 5 years? Does not seem possible. Time marches on I guess. Things have changed and yet, remain the same. I'm sure you know what I mean.
The department will finally be putting on some new rookies and I think your locker,left untouched and on display since you passed ,will serve as a great reminder to these kids about just what can happen on this job.I still get emotional when I look at it but I think it will help teach the rooks what they need to know.
Anyway,hope all is well in the hereafter! Appreciate you looking in on us from time to time as I know you do.
Until next year...

Policeman's 23rd Psalm

The Lord is my Shepherd, I shall not want,
His comforting hand reduces fear to naught;
He makes me walk through streets of crime,
But He gives me courage and peace of mind.

He leads me by still waters in the path I trod,
And He says in Romans I'm a "minister of God,"
He leads me in righteousness as He restores my soul,
For His name's sake He keeps me whole.

When I walk through death's valley, right up to the door,
I will fear no evil, for He comforts me more;
For Thou art with me every step of the way,
As thy rod and thy staff protect me each day.

He prepares a table, especially for me,
As I work daily among life's enemies;
He gives me authority to uphold the law,
And He anoints my position in the midst of it all.

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me,
Each day of my life through eternity;
As I long to hear Him say, "Well done...,"
When I lay down my life, my badge, and my gun.

To the family and friends of Officer James Shields, and his fellow officers with the Buffalo Police Dept:

On behalf of our entire family, I wish to extend our sincerest condolences on the grievous loss you suffered when Officer Shields was tragically killed.
His dedication and valor will never be forgotten.

Our family grieves with you and for you.
We share your agony as we lost our beloved Larry Lasater of the Pittsburg Police Dept. when he was fatally shot on April 23, 2005 during a foot pursuit of two bank robbers.

May you continue to be comforted by the caring and support of your law enforcement family, and other police survivors.

This refection is sent with the utmost respect for the service Officer Shields gave to his community as a law enforcement officer, and to the citizens of New York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on October 28, 2002.

Phyllis Loya, mother of Larry Lasater, Pittsburg Police Dept, eow 4/24/05

TODAY IS A DAY TO REMEMBER OFFICER SHIELDS.
IT HAS BEEN THREE YEARS, BUT TO THE FAMILY IT PROBABLY SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY THAT THIS HAPPENED.
I PRAY THAT THE LORD WILL CONTINUE TO SUSTAIN YOU IN THIS LOSS AND THAT YOU WILL FEEL HIS EVER COMFORTING PRESENCE WITH YOU.
GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU.

Jim,
As you already know,the guy who was responsible for your death is now himself dead by his own actions at the hands of our brothers -in- arms, the Niagra Falls PD.Thankfully,they were able to end this menace to society's reign of terror before he was able to kill again.Rest easy Jim, no copper will again die at this animal's hands. Thank You NFPD...

Jim,
Well,it's been two years to the day since you left us.How things have changed huh? You've missed a lot during that time but you've certainly been missed even more.
Just the other day I was standing at your locker with another officer talking about you."What a nice guy" he remarked.I could'nt have agreed more.I know I speak for everyone at Delta when I say we miss you and thanks a lot for keeping an eye on us as we go about the task of patroling our City.
Until Next Time...

P.S. I saw your son on the news today saying how proud he was of you. I'll bet he's not nearly as proud of you ,as you are of HIM!
