Reflections for Officer Conrad Sudario Gernale

Conrad, I can't believe that it has been 21 years since you were taken from us. You would not believe how much has changed over the years. Even with so much time that has past I remember the night you were taken from us as if it was yesterday. I know you have been watching over us and that you are so very proud of your 3 beautiful children. They have all grown up so fast and become wonderful young adults...I know you are so proud of them. Their mom has been a rock as you know. Always know that we will miss you and look forward to the day we can see each other again. RIP brother

Conrad I've lost many friends in this job and in the war. You were such an honest good man. It always hurts during the holidays, brother. I helped carry your casket and will never forget you. Here's to you and your family , I know you are in God's hands. Tim

Hi Conrad, sorry I have not written in a while. I still feel the emptiness and pain of you not here with us everyday. Andre and Xavier are both in college now. Celina has finished her masters degree program. We are so proud of them all. I wish you were still here with us. I miss you still everyday. Ana has done an outstanding job with the kids. Love you.

Conrad is my nephew. His mother Lily, is my older sister. The incident that night of Sept. 06, 2002, shocked us in the family. Overwhelming grief touched our family, as well as the Beaumont community. Conrad was only 34 years old when a mad man took his life. The question of why this happened to a gentle, well mannered, law abiding young officer, a family man, was an endless question. We left that question unanswered to our strong faith in God's merciful wisdom and had moved our family closer. Conrad was such a peace maker man, missed him greatly and we continue to celebrate his life. To memorialize Conrad's honor and duty as a police officer, the family established a scholarship program in Dagami, Leyte, Philippines in 2004. The scholarship program was to help very poor, intelligent and determined students, to finish high school at St. Joseph High School. The program spanned 5 years. It was a blessing to these local students and their families to have gained a quality high school education, administered by Catholic Nuns. Currently, with Ana's, (wife ) close watch, dedication and maternal love to her young family, the oldest daughter Celina, is currently advancing her education in Speech and Hearing degree to a Masters degree level. The 2 boys, Xavier, just graduated, Magna Cum Laude in high school and Andre' is still in high school. The whole family circle plus extended families around Ana, were a huge support in Ana's family life. I must say..... It takes a VILLAGE to come together, extend help towards a young family, deep in grief and then grow, cope and sustain life.

I do not know you or your family. I want to thank you for what you have done in your line of service. I came across your name in class. I am currently a senior in a law and public saftey class. We are doing a project on fallen officers and we get to research and present about any officer that was taken from us on the job. In rememberance, I am honored to be able to talk about your story. My prayer go out to you and your family. I can't help but tear up reading the reflections from your friends and family. Sounds like you were a truely an honnerable person and touch a lot of lifes. Once again I thank you.

Kuya Conrad, I can't believe it's been 11 years since we lost you. Today Christina and I are going to the COPS siblings retreat, which coincidentally starts on your anniversary. How fortuitous! I know you would've been so proud as Celina walked across the stage to receive her high school diploma, and it was so wonderful to have the Chief escort her in your honor. After all these years, we all still remember and miss you. You are always present in our hearts and memories. RIP Kuya! Until we meet again...

Last night as your daughter walked the stage to graduate from high school, she was honored by the department by being walked off the stage by Chief Singletary and met by a group of officers at the bottom of the ramp. The love that Tiki and others showed as they physically embrace her literally brought me to tears. What an amazing show of love for you and your family. I know you were smiling from Heaven and knew that they were there physically in our physical absence. Every time I think of their sweet gesture, I cry. Rest easy, my friend. I assu you that your family is taken care of.

Sitting here tonite thinking about you. I often have days where I struggle at the prison and need some advice. You, Keith, and Lisa are all gone. I used to get mad...lol...now as i go through these trying times i remember how you all conducted and handled yourselves. It makes the days go by just a bit easier. As much as I want to go back to the easier things, i will not quit. You instilled that in me my friend. Thank you and miss you.

In the past week, Ana and I have spent a lot of time together as she cared for my critically ill father in ICU. I felt so wonderful knowing she was taking care of him. The love and care she gave to my Daddy was second to none. I overheard her talking to my Daddy about the pain of losing a spouse as my mom recently passed away. She was so incredibly strong and tried her best to encourage him to go on like she has. Your kids are growing so fast. I couldn't believe your daughter was driving. You would be so proud of your family. You are loved and missed. Thanks for sharing your wonderful family with us.
