Thinking of you on your birthday and wishing you were here so we could celebrate it with you. You're always with us, in our hearts and thoughts, but it's just not the way it should be. There's still a big hole in our life. Things seemed so much easier when you were with us. You just had a way of making things better.

Just dropping in on this Thanksgiving day to let you know that I'm thankfull for the great times we had in the Marines! I still keep in contact with some of the Marines from Havana and talk about you often.

on special days. I remember how you always celebrated the Marine Corp Birthday..and we still remember...always will.

I am sad for the family and the friends of Officer Schmidt, they love her with all their hearts. Everyday before I start my shift I tell my wife I love her and kiss my kids on the forehead saying " If I don't return, I'll watch over you". It is a very risky job, but for the Police Officer they don't care becuase we love what we do for a living. Our job is to help people and be the "goodguys" but sometimes people don't think we are good guys.

Another Christmas and new year without you. Looking back I remember all the good times we had over the holidays....especially New Years Eve! You were always the life of the party. It's been eight years. Eight sad, heart-wrenching, heads filled with many why-us questions. I miss you so much, Melissa. You made my entire life the way it is, and I owe so much to you for that. It was you that helped me along the way when you were with me here on Earth, and you still do it when you're not physically here with me. You are so amazing...

Your heroism and service is honored today, the eighth anniversary of your death. Your memory lives and you continue to inspire. Thank you for your service. My cherished son Larry Lasater was a fellow police officer murdered in the line of duty on April 24, 2005 while serving as a Pittsburg, CA police officer. He was also your fellow Marine so I also bid yo semper fi.

I pray for the solace of all those who love and remember you for I know both the pain and pride are forever. Like your mother, I share her anquish in losing a beloved child which surely has to be the greatest sorrow in life. I smiled as I read her remembrance about the marine corps birthday...only a Marine and his/her family would truly understand the significance of that ocasion and what it means to all Marines. Rest In Peace.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Melissa gave to her country and her community, and for her supreme sacrifice she and her family made on August 1, 2002.

Thinking of you and all of your loved ones today, Police Officer Memorial Day. I know that those that love you dearly carry those special memories of you in their broken hearts and think of you every day. Someone recently sent me this quote and I would like to leave this for you Mom:

The sense of loss does not diminish with time, in truth, the expression, 'time heals all wounds' is a myth. For parents, the loss of a child is permanent and mental scar tissue really does not grow over the grim memory. Rather, all tears are expeneded and the dull ache remains."

Hi Melissa!

It's been awhile since I posted anything here - but that does not mean I have not thought about you.

Tomorrow is the start on National Police Week (May 9-15). Every year during this week, I reflect on the great times we had in the Bahamas and Havana, Cuba as Marines! We had some super times that I will always cherish! You would always kick my tail all over the basketball court. You were one heck of a basketball player as well a Marine!

My thoughts and prayers are always with you and your family.

Just reading the last reflection leaves me to wonder how many other people. that you've met in your adventures, don't know that you've been taken from us. Wish we knew how to contact them. But....you're still with us..always in our hearts and minds. Especially today..on your birthday. Melissa, Its been a long time since we served together in Iwakuni,Japan. I just found out that you are now watching over us. You were always one of my favorites. You always made me laugh, when people would ask why you left law enforcement to join the Marine Corps, and your answer was that you needed a vacation.
