Thinking of you on this eighth anniversary and calling to mind these classic words by Raymond Chandler. They could have been written about you for they are a perfect fit.

"Down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid. He is the hero, he is everything. He must be a complete man and a common man and yet an unusual man. He must be, to use a rather weathered phrase, a man of honor, by instinct, by inevitability, without thought of it, and certainly without saying it. He must be the best man in his world and a good enough man for any world."

As I stood at your gravesite just the other day, I just knew that you could hear me, even though I did not say a word.

Not just today, but everyday, a thought of you is in my mind. Miss you my friend.

Larry, I did not know you personally, but I lived in the area you patrolled. Your sacrifice was a big reason for me joining the ranks of the NYSP.
I have heard many stories about you from your friends. I believe the true measure of a person is in how you are remembered. Larry rest in peace knowing that you touched many people and made our world a better place. Your friends even though you are gone, still carry your memories with them and through the sharing of thier stories allow others to know what a great person and trooper you were.

Rest in peace brother

Another year has passed; a new year has begun, 2010. Yet the heartache and longing for you only increases. It is so like you to want to alleviate our grief by letting us know you are still with us, even if it is in some other dimension. Love you, miss you, so much more than words can ever say!

Thinking of you and missing you, as always, but especially yesterday, on your 36th birthday. Cannot help but wonder what life would have sent your way during the past seven years had it not been taken so tragically. One thing is certain; the world would be a better place if you were still here, for the goodness emanating from you was contagious.
Much love now and forever,

Forgive me for missing the anniversary of your E.O.W., but I felt as though I could not continue to read about so many tragedies. I now realize the visit each day to leave a word of encouragement and hope to the loved ones of others, helps me to remember that I am not alone with my pain and heartbreak. So may I say to your friends and loved ones that my thoughts and prayers are with them now and always. Continue to keep watch over them and those still out on patrol and may they know you will never be forgotten.

To Trooper Larry Gleason, his mother, father, siblings and other loved ones, and his fellow troopers with New York State Police:

On this the seventh anniversary of your tragic death, please know that your memory is honored and revered today.

My heart is with all family members and friends who call you beloved. They are all in my thoughts and prayers today. I especially hold your parents in my heart today as I know the meaning of a life forever changed by the death of a cherished son (also named Larry).

Larry, this world, this country, your community truly are better places because of you. To have lost you is a great tragedy, an irreplaceable, immeasurable loss for society. We are grateful for and to you, and honor you for all you did for us day in and day out whether you received a word of thanks or praise.

Rest in Peace, Larry. I am so humbled by your valor and courage.

This reflection is sent with the utmost respect for the distinquished service Larry gave to his community and the citizens of New York, and for the supreme sacrifice he and his family made on February 11, 2002.
