Reflections for Police Officer Christopher Kevin James

Wanted to pay my respects to Officer James and other officers (and families) for their service and sacrifice. I had the privilege to care for a Corpus Christi Police Officer today (I am a medical provider) and, as is always the case when I visit with any officer, shared with him the unfortunate events of Nov 25th, 2001. I know the story all too well. I looked him in the eyes, shook his hand firmly and genuinely let him know that I appreciate what he does to keep us safe. Mr. James, I think of you often, pray for family and remain forever grateful that individuals like you continue to walk the face of this earth. For those of you that have or continue to put yourselves in harm's way, a look in the eyes, a firm hand shake and a genuine thank you. God Speed.

I went to school with you at Jefferson Elementary. I talked to your parents today. We reminisced and reflected that this was only a temporary good bye. Looking forward to reuniting in Heaven.

KJ - your memory lives on and I am forever grateful for your kindness when I was just a new recruit. You always said hello and took 2 minutes to ask me about my day. 20+ years in law enforcement and I still reflect on how you treated me and I strive to pay it forward.

Officer James:
I met your widow, Lori, this evening in Grapevine. She's a fine lady, and I know she misses you a lot. We only spoke briefly, so I don't know what she's doing with her life, but I can tell she's happy. But, her life is not what she wanted it to be. She enjoyed spending a few minutes talking to an ex-cop.

We miss you, Kevin.
Another senseless killing of peace officers today.
God rest their souls.
Pray for us.

Tonight I drink to your memory Brother. The Great State of Texas has delivered justice on your behalf but greater justice will be done on the day of final judgement. As you walk Heaven's beat we remember you.

KJ you were in my office just days before and we just took a few minutes to talk and laugh. I think of you often. I still have your business card. It is true, you were a shining example for the DPD and just an all around good guy. Tonight you get justice. May God be with your friends and especially your family today.

Kevin was a dear friend to my family. He went to school and played football with my brother. He was at my family's house quite a bit. He was a super young man, and he always wanted to be a police officer. The last time I saw Kevin was at the hospital. He was visiting my mom. He was like a younger brother. I checked on Licho's execution status every once in awhile. The date is set for Oct. 14th , 2015.
I have carried hate in my heart for the man who took Kevin's life. We had a sermon in church about forgiveness. He explained what forgiveness was and was not. I am writing Mr. Escamilla a letter telling him what kind of person Kevin was. I am also explaining what the sermon was about. There are consequences for our actions, and he is about to get his consequence handed down. I don't know his heart; I know Kevin is in heaven, and we were all the better for knowing him. My heart goes out to his family.

Officer James continues to shape my attitude about officers, their families and the collective sacrifices they make for our safety. Interestingly, he has also shaped how I behave as a citizen, friend and father. I never met Officer James yet will never forget him or the sacrifice he made for our society. God Bless.

Occasionally, Officer James worked the crosswalk at the Infomart. If memory serves, maybe 1999 to 2001. In the mornings he would ensure employees who parked underneath Stemmons freeway could safely cross the service road to get into the Infomart. In the afternoon, he worked the Oaklawn side to direct traffic out of the Infomart parking lot. He and I exchanged pleasantries in the morning. He was always courteous, smiling and in a good mood to start the morning. I remember those days and miss them.

Kevin. I think about you often and appreciate your sacrifice more than you know. I pray for those that love you, that they may find peace and I pray for those that fail to appreciate the sacrifices that officers and their families make so that we may pursue our dreams, that they see the light.

Dear Kevin, Even though i feel like I talk to you everyday, I just wanted to post something here so that people could see how moch you are missed. You were truely the greateset big brother I could have ever hoped for, even on those 8hr trips in the backseat to see Grandma! I miss you everyday but especially on this day that changed the lives of so many. I love you and my heart still breaks to know that you were taken from us too soon.

Officer James was the crossing guard for the Dallas Infomart for a year or two before his death, and although I never spoke in depth with him we always exchanged greetings.

The day of his passing I noticed he wasn't at the crosswalk, which I thought was strange. I read about the circumstances of his death in the paper in our breakroom that day, and was very saddened. My best to his family.
