Reflections for Sergeant Timothy Roy
On this 10th Anniversary of the World Trade Center attack, I participated in a memorial parade here in Portland, Maine. Our police and fire departments handed out signs bearing the names of fallen heroes from 9/11. I had the honor of carrying the name of Sergeant Timothy Roy. While watching the NBC national news this evening, they showed his wife and interviewed his son. What a proud moment I felt that I was able to carry his name in honor today.
As a native New Yorker, and having a brother who is a Detective in the NYPD, it was an emotional day to say the least. He was at the site that day participating in the rescue efforts, and for many days and weeks after in the recovery. But my emotions cannot compare to those who lost loved ones that day.
May God bless all of you who keep us safe, and may God bless Sergeant Roy and his family.

I am a police officer in North Carolina, this morning the local firefighters association put on the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in the Duke Energy building in uptown Charlotte. We climbed 110 stories (the building is only 50 stories, we climbed it twice then up another 10 stories) The event was only open to local firefighters and police officers, each of us completed the climb in memory of someone who died that day. We were given a badge with the name and picture of that person.
I was given the honor to represent Sgt Timothy Roy whom I have never met. If there is anyone who reads this reflection that knows the family of Sgt Roy or a way to get in touch with his family please email me. I would love to send them my badge.
Thank you and may you rest in peace brother.

I made a donation to the families of the victims of 9/11 through our church and received a bracelet with Tim Roy's name and occupation on it (called a prayer bracelet). At first I wore this bracelet every day for two years which reminded me every day to pray for his family and loved ones. Since then I keep the bracelet in my jewelry box to be taken out and worn for the week leading up to 9/11 each year as a reminder to pray again for the family of this TRUE AMERICAN AND HERO that God will comfort their hearts and give them piece and guidance in their lives. Part of my prayers for all of these years is that God would reveal to them his purpose for this trial in their lives and that they would see His love and feel the comfort of His arms around them. Maybe some day I will learn of this purpose, but maybe not, and I will just need to wait until I meet him in Heaven.
God's Blessings to the family and loved ones of Officer Timothy Roy and please know that until the day I die, every year, I will be praying for you. With Love in Christ, Jill Jamison

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

I did not know Sgt Roy went I sent away for the bracelet to benefit the widows and orphans, but he is who I got. Since then I have had the honor to read many things about him. I found him to be a good leader, and generally a stand up guy. From what I have read his absence has left quite a hole. I continue to wear his name on my wrist as a inspiration, that tells me, when things are tough there are people who will always be there to do what has to be done. And on "that day" Sgt Roy was one of those people. God Bless all who have followed in his chosen professtion, and God Bless his family and friends.
