Officer Down Memorial Page

10 years ago the department I worked for ordered memorial bracelets. I received one with your name on it. In the last couple of days I been thinking about what has happened sent you left us. You left a son behind,my son was an infant and is now 10 years old. I now have 2 other children and 2 stepchildren. What a tragedy that you couldn't be here to watch him grow up. Bin Laden has been taken care of and that is supposed to be a bit of comfort for everyone. I pray for your family that they remember all the good times they had with you instead of your ultimate sacrifice.
Rest in peace dear brother. We'll continue to take care of things down here.
I'm only a dispatcher...but losing an officer is like losing a brother to me also.

I remember like everyone else the 1st day of high school was a very SCARY day.And the first day the 1st person I met was you.

We were such close freinds and we did everything together.
30 years later I still remember your humor.

And I thank you for the SACRIFICE you gave.

I served with Steve in the US Navy Seabees and only recently found out that he was lost in the world trade center attack. He was a good friend. Gob Bless.

More than 6 years after, Stephen's mom still speaks glowingly of the son she cherished. She was so proud of him and still misses him but she knows he and his dad are looking down on us and watching over those that they loved. He and all those we lost that terrible day will stay in our thoughts and prayers for all time. I wish I had known him.

"The Badge"

He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.

He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.

Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.

He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.

His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.

He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.

And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.

But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.

Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.

Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.

So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.

In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.

Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Dear Steve:
In the history of our great nation, America has had many trials and tribulations, and many enemies who sought to destroy our very way of life. And each time America faced such a foe, there was always that unsung hero who rose to the occassion, and twarted the threat. Men such as Francis Marion, Andrew Jackson, Sam Houston, U.S. Grant, Teddy Roosevelt, Sgt. York, Audie Murphy. and now, Stephen Driscoll.
Like the men that preceded you, you gave all for your country and your fellow countrymen, without regard for yourself. As a direct result of your actions, the animals that designed this attack on 11 September 2001, were unsuccessful in killing many more innocent people than they did.
And, as in our glorious past, America was spared any further attacks thus far. Because of your sacrifice, and that of all the others, freedom loving people everywhere opened their eyes to the very real danger of these fanactics. This is a group of people who are so opposite of us and everything we stand for. They kill in the name of their god; people like you, die trying to save others, in the name of our God. These fanactics embrace horror; we embrace peace. They propose death; we, on the other hand, choose life.
And that choice, life, is what you gave in order that others might have theirs. Although I have never had the honor to meet you, I am certain that I know no man who will ever fill your shoes. Because of your Mom, this world was a better place to have you in it, and now that you are gone, this world is not as good as it once was.
As your family moves on in life, I am certain there will always be a hollow feeling, particularly at this time of year. And with that, I would like to say thank you to you for all that you did, and to wish all the warmth and love of this Christmas season to your family. Rest in peace my brother, we have the watch. Amen
