Joe:
Thanks for your sacrifice on this 9/11 anniversary day. You sound like an outstanding police officer who never shunned danger or the opportunity to help others. As one former special tactics team guy to another--thanks so much for what your did that day and what you accomplished in your storied career. You rushed into the caldron while others were evacuating--something you obviously never hesitated to do. I've been to the 9/11 memorial and I (we) shall never forget your sacrifice that day.

Thanks to Officer Kathy Vigiano for posting the link to the video Twin Towers. I had posted a reflection for Joseph years ago and the last couple of weeks I have been trying to double check if I had listed a reflection for all our 9/11 heroes and spotted your share of the link. How very proud you and all your family must be of Joseph and John. Thank you also for your service as a law enforcement officer. I will keep you and your family in my prayers.

Dear Joe:

It's 10 years since I wrote to you, and 15 years since that horrible day. Though many things have changed, one thing remains constant:

You are a hero, now and forever. People hear the phrase, "Protect and serve", and they treat it as a cliché. But to those of in the Blue Brotherhood, it's a code we live by.

Every family that lost someone that day because of those murdering cowards, will forever be hurting. Your family lost two, and I can't imagine the pain. But I can imagine the pride that they have, knowing you are a hero. Many people lived that day because of you and other law enforcement officers.

Your sacrifice, Joe, has set the bar high for others to emulate. Though our Thin Blue Line is a bit thinner, it has held.

Today, we have sports personalities that refuse to stand for the National Anthem, and wear socks with a pigs face wearing a police officer's hat. Their dislike of the police confirms they have NO IDEA WHAT SACRIFICE REALLY MEANS. But because of your sacrifice, their right to exhibit their immature is protected.

Rest in peace, Joe, you did your job well, my brother. And you made all proud of you.

May Almighty God bless you and your family.

75 Steady late tours, and long hours at BCB is where I had the privilege of walking for a moment in time with Mike Curtin and Joe Vigiano. Often, the name "Sons of Thunder" will come to mind when thinking of them.

There was just something about these two. Joe; Quick, Bold, Fearless. Fearless. Yet seeming to carry within a deep, poignant sense of compassion. Perhaps it's what fueled him. Mike; A Rock. Solid, Restrained, Intelligent. A Powerhouse. Yet possessed of an almost unbearable grace.

If someone were to tell me that they were only ever on loan to us from the heavens, I would believe them. If someone were to say this is an example of what God's Angels look like when living as mortal men, I would believe them. No, not the harp playing kind. The warrior kind. God's policemen.

It seems so right that they were together in life. So, I suppose it shouldn't be surprising that they were taken together at the end of their time here. But it still hurts.

Mike, Joe; It was an honor to have known you, and impossible to forget you. I trust you are safe home, and Semper Fi.

I don't know if his family reads this but I just had to get this out there. My husband and I participated in a 9-11 Memorial motorcycle run in Knoxville Tn on Sunday. They did an awesome job in acknowledging the Police officers,FF,Port Authority, all that perished. The most touching was that when you signed in and paid your registration fee ( that all went to the families) they had a ID card with photo and who they worked for and you wore them as you rode they were all with us as Angels that got us safely to our destination.

My Angel was Det Joseph Viigiano NYCPD

My husbands was Chief James Romito Port Authority

We will now keep these photo cards and be apart of our family and be in our hearts they will forever be with us
I would love for their families to know this

Thanks Knox county for such a thoughtful idea

I was a Police/FF dispatcher for 27 years. I was married to an officer and now to a federal agent so I'm aware of bonds we create. Thank you to all

I worked with Joe in the 075 pct and he always put a smile on my face and made me laugh. He was an inspiration, a great friend and a cop's cop. We always had plenty of laughs at work or on the roller-hockey field playing for the 075 NYPD Commissioner's League. We were the bigger guys on the team that had some trouble stopping on those skates "look-out and get out of the way!!" were not uncommon warnings. I wish I had a picture with him; I miss those days. RIP brother, you will not be forgotten!
