Reflections for Sergeant John Coughlin
This is September 11, 2011. Ten years ago on this date, our country was attacked. This reflection is for every law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic, and civilian that were killed on that horrific day in 2001. You are all true heros, each and every one of you. I will never forget any of you that gave your life trying to save another.. and neither will this country. You fought the good fight brother.. now may you rest in peace! and god bless everyone who lost someone that day!

i have worn my bracelet just shy of 10 years now, and it is in good company with my mia bracelet. I stop on many occasions and reflect on the loss to family and frends the abcense of these good men means in this world of time. i know there can be no words to comfort you save from God who has His hand over all those who loved and lost, but you are still here and you are loved. I am still grieved by times like this, when you have to revisit the pain. Be strong, you are not alone.

Today is May 15, 2011. This past week I was visiting NYC and purchased a wrist band with Sgt John Coughlin's name....so I wanted to find out more about him. I am honored to wear this bracelet, and honor him and his family and friends daily....the ultimate sacrafice. And when I found out he was a marine.....well....so was my father...WWII (who just passed in 2010). Can't help but imagine it was meant to happen that I came across his name, and the military tie to my father. THANK YOU for your honor and courage!! And THANK YOU to his family.......I love you all. God bless......Semper Fi!!

"The Badge"
He starts his shift each day
To respond to calls unknown.
He drives a marked patrol car.
A police officer he is known.
He's paid by the citizens' taxes
To make it safe on the streets.
But he usually has a second job
'Cause a waitress has his salary beat.
Now he doesn't know a holiday
'Cause he works all year round.
And when Thanksgiving and Christmas finally arrive
At his home he cannot be found.
He's cursed and assaulted often,
The one whos blood runs blue.
He seldom ever gets a thanks,
To some he's just a fool.
His friends are always other cops
'Cause people just don't understand
That underneath his badge and gun,
He's just another man.
He knows there might not be a tomorrow
In this world of drugs and crime.
And he gets so mad at the court system
'Cause the crooks don't get any time.
And each day when he leaves for work,
He prays to God above.
Please bring me home after my shift
So I can see the ones I love.
But tonight he stops a speeding car,
He's alone down this ole' highway.
It's just a little traffic infraction.
He does it everyday.
Well, he walks up to the driver's window,
And his badge is shining bright.
He asked the guy for a driver's license,
When a shot rang through the night.
Yes, the bullet hit its mark,
Striking the officer in the chest.
But the Department's budget didn't buy
Each officer a bullet-proof vest.
So he lay on the ground bleeding.
His blood wasn't blue - His blood was red.
And briefly he thought of his loved ones
'Cause in a moment the officer was dead.
In the news they told the story
Of how this officer had died.
And some who listened cared less,
But those who loved him cried.
Well, they buried him in uniform
With his badge pinned on his chest.
He even had his revolver,
He died doing his best.

Sarge, I remember seeing this nightmare unfold while watching television that morning after my wife called me to tell me about the first plane.........I felt so damn helpless (still do!) as the first tower fell; I knew......didn't wanna believe but I knew we had to have lost cops and fire fighters. I was watching this and it seemed so close, yet I couldn't do anything...........or help any of you guys....I AM SO SORRY!
Please know that I keep all of you in my prayers and thoughts always. Rest in peace my brother.......your sacrifice will NEVER be forgotten. GOD BLESS YOU! We'll finish the tour from here.
