Reflections for Sergeant John Gerard Coughlin

I am doing an assessment of Sergeant John Gerard Coughlin for my GAVC class located in Morris, IL. The reason why I chose Coughlin is because of the 9/11 terrorist attack and he died saving people that were trapped. Also, Coughlin encouraged me to push and dedicate myself. "You may encounter many defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how can still come out of it"- Maya Angelou. The reason I pick this quote is because it reminds me of Coughlin.

On the anniversary of 9/11, I thank you and your comrades for your selfless duty and courage that momentous day. Your sacrifice and those of the victims and other first responders will forever be honored in the annals of brave men and women who gave their all for their city, state and for the United States of America. A hero in every sense of the word. At your tenure you could have opted for safer assignments, but you chose ESU. It says a lot about who you were. Like the rest, your courage that day is an inspiration.

This is September 11, 2011. Ten years ago on this date, our country was attacked. This reflection is for every law enforcement officer, firefighter, paramedic, and civilian that were killed on that horrific day in 2001. You are all true heros, each and every one of you. I will never forget any of you that gave your life trying to save another.. and neither will this country. You fought the good fight brother.. now may you rest in peace! and god bless everyone who lost someone that day!

i have worn my bracelet just shy of 10 years now, and it is in good company with my mia bracelet. I stop on many occasions and reflect on the loss to family and frends the abcense of these good men means in this world of time. i know there can be no words to comfort you save from God who has His hand over all those who loved and lost, but you are still here and you are loved. I am still grieved by times like this, when you have to revisit the pain. Be strong, you are not alone.

Today is May 15, 2011. This past week I was visiting NYC and purchased a wrist band with Sgt John Coughlin's name....so I wanted to find out more about him. I am honored to wear this bracelet, and honor him and his family and friends daily....the ultimate sacrafice. And when I found out he was a marine.....well....so was my father...WWII (who just passed in 2010). Can't help but imagine it was meant to happen that I came across his name, and the military tie to my father. THANK YOU for your honor and courage!! And THANK YOU to his family.......I love you all. God bless......Semper Fi!!
